My old Iiyama CRT is slowly fading away, the screen is burned and it's basically getting very past it . . .

An LCD plat panel does appeal however I'm looking for 1600x1200 resolution and a monitor that's as good as a reasonable CRT w.r.t colour/contrast/etc . . . I run the current monitor at 1600x1200@100Hz and find it brilliant for long hacking sessions . . .

I've used a couple of Dell LCD's at work and am very unimpressed with the way they display images . . . highlights get blown out, colours look too vibrant, etc . . . plus they are all too low a resolution . . .

Question is . . . do you get LDC's as good as CRT's ? . . . any replacement monitor will be kept for a long time, so I am prepared to spend some cash on it . . .

Thoughts ?

Hhhmmm surprised about the Dell's you have. My 2405FPW is spot on. 1920x1200 is handy too.

They are piddly wee 1200x1024's probably the cheapest ones you can get . . . I have to say that the LCD display on my X40 laptop is significantly better w.r.t colour/contrast . . .

I have a dell 20" widescreen next to a dell 15" jobby, and they are really worlds apart in quality. The dell widescreen ones I think use the same guts as apple cinema displays and are quite hightly regarded.

That said they are by all accounts nothing on Eizo monitors which are I beleive the current daddy of the LCD crop in the photo editing stakes. expensive though:

Decent review of the current 20" models on the market:
