Wobbly Bonnet cured for 58p - Top Tip

My bonnet has never been totally 'tight'. So I went to B&Q and bought some 'Climaflex', it's a silvery Foam rubber tube that is used for insulating central heating and water pipes from frost.
Cut 2 strips 1/2" wide, removed the old rubber strips from where the bonnet locks rest, up near the windscreen, glued in the new ones which fit nice and tightly, and I now have a nice tightly fitting bonnet, took me 2 minutes, it no longer wobbles at speed - perfect. Don't how long it will last before the rubber gets all compressed, but the Climaflex cost me 58p, and I've got 57.5 p's worth left, probably enough for 100 more bits !!

I did a similar thing to mine but with sticky foam pads we got when fitting tow bars to new volvo's! no longer does my bonnet rattle!

Would it not be better to fix the bonnet latches anyway?

I replaced the worn rubber grommets in mine, and adjusted the locking rods, then it didn't rattle at all.

The Bonnet latches are fine - But if you check the rubber pads where the bit of metal that is attached to the bonnet fits, I'll bet you'll find they are both compressed, and so wont give any support to the boonet, if theyre not, then you dont need to replace them .

Got em in a motor spares shop. One of the old fashion kind that still has boxes with miscellaneous bits in!
