This is a 100% crop of a handheld shot, 1/125th @f5.6 & 400mm lens.

Handheld!

I love such pictures of the moon...

This is the best I can do with my gear (Fuji Finepix S602 Zoom)

Surely silver is the wrong colour for your moon Martin?

So I fixed it for you.

Nice shot btw, and very impressive hand held at that speed - IS on I assume?

Excuse me for peeing on the fire, but whats the big deal about hand holding a 125th shot with an IS lens? Surely we all hand hold shots at 125th secs everyday? Without IS?

Or am I missing something? Surely getting a sharp shot handheld at 1/30th is skillfull? (not that I could do that with my shakey hands)

I was thinking more on exposure, not being handheld,
how can you get the exposure right on a picture so dark at 125ths, with so much detail on the moon, thats why I am amzed

But if you put the cam on centre weighted metering and point it at the moon with a 400mm digital lens, its going to get the same amount of light through the lens as a dull afternoon in England! Thats what I was thinking?
