Lamborghini Murcielago running costs
Discussion
Not planning on buying one, but im interested on how much they cost to run over a period of one year. I hear clutch replacements are in the £1000s. Compared to cars of similar price (Aston Vanquish S, Ferrari 575) are they a similar price to run.

Figs for 26000 miles in a Murcie from new, in one year. (Currently 30,000):
Petrol £8000, Servicing £5000, Clutch Plate £2000, 2 sets brake pads £600, 4 sets tyres £3600, Tubi Exhaust £2000, Insurance £2600, Oil & Filters x 2 £300. Total = £24100,00.
The above includes 5000 miles of trackday use. Oh and the small matter of depreciation but since it only applys when its sold I haven't included that

Great info. Since your's is new, any chance of listing stuff done under warranty too? If you've also got an idea of the price of those works it would be fantastic, if not just what needed to be done would be great anyway. Thanks in advance.

To be honest, that seems a reasonable cost. Heavy on the tyres and brakes, but you do have it on the track a lot. The Tubi was optional, NOT! Insurance is ok for the car.
As for selling it. I agree, you only loose when you sell it. Your motor is still the dog's bollock's so can't see any reason not to keep it till its worth next to nothing. Then just keep it as a work of art

I guess the other side of the coin with Simon's car is the amount of money the car has made through the evo feature and the supercar experience days he runs. Makes sense to me!
Thats quite true..It brought in about £19000 last year mostly in Bruntingthorpe track days, with a few wedding thrown in and lots of free nosh when its parked outside certain Italian restaurants! (Plus a good few dates)

Warranty work : Well this is what I can recall..
Couple of mods to the handbrake cable (they are as crap on F cars as well), couple of rear lenses on rear lights due to water ingress. 2 new throttle bodies (about £1000 each to buy, when they go the Murcie won't idle correctly, very common on 02-04 cars),at least 5 mods to the front nearside wheel hub which makes a ticking noise on hard lock after a few months,(again very common),mods to the door locks which can lock you in or out due to water ingress into the mechanism. (I once parked in the centre of Leeds and couldn't get out. In the end had to climb outa the window in front of a lot of bemused shoppers.) Thats about it. I know I keep rattling on about it, but the Murcie gets driven very hard for a full 8 hrs every other week at Brunters, so considering all that I don't think its too bad. Having said that ask me in Sept when the warranty runs out!
Cheers Simon, very kind of you to share that info.
Get them to give you another year!! They can put it on their R&D fund, I don't think anyone has "tested" one in quite the same way(!)

(Plus a good few dates)Also to add to the aforementioned total is £1500 in paintwork for a nose job..Forget the Evo thing, as any part time contributor to publications will tell you, you can't really make a living unless you are full time. But its great fun and those guys are a great bunch of manic petrol heads..

Hi simon,
glad to here you give the merc'y plenty of 'whelly', interested to know your best top speed at Brunters, and, how late did you dare leave your braking...

Mark.
B****x to the cost and after speaking with Simon (cheers chap!) I'm even more determined to buy one. Started off thinking about the Diablo but, once again speaking to Simon, I'm erring more towards the Murci. Going through investigating Finance at the moment and will hopefully buy in the next few months (2002-2003 car). Sheer madness - but you can't take it with you, although I remember saying that to my dad once to which he retorted "Right, well in that case I'm not going...".

not sure what surprises me more
the cost of the pads or the fact you only needed 2 sets after 5k of track miles
As Simon will tell you, the cost he's quoted is for non-Lambo replacement pads. The official lambo one's are about three times the price.
Correct. They are standard Pagid blues on the Murcielago but come in a Lambo box with a £1600 price tag! (Oh sorry you also get a wear indicator lead for the extra £1298)!
£302 inc delivery from Tim at Circuit Supplies 01525 385888. Top bloke. I just need some discs now. Tarox will make some but need the old discs for 2 weeks to make a pattern. Much as I get on with Lambo Manchester I can't really ask em to lend me a new one for 2 weeks being a dealer.Shame though.
