Wibbly wobbly.

Coz of my slightly non-std dash layout, I felt the dash was gonna need a bit of reinforcement. So, to kill several birdies with one pot of resin, I've integrated 4 Audi demister vents.......

Dash now as rigid as...err...a very rigid thing! Might as well take a pic of it now coz it'll be burried for ever come cockpit on day.

So would I! Leathered it last night - jeez, that has to be the hardest job so far! The manual shows one bloke doing it - he must have three pairs of hands outta pic though!! Like most of these tasks though, once you've done it and stand back, one wonders what all the sweat was about!

Pics of dash to follow next week. SVA put back to a week Thursday. The only one I could get is in Southampton - look out M3!!!

So what other mare jobs are left - clutch alighnment? Gear linkage adjustment?

ps - actually they are Golf vents not Audi. The air vents facing the driver and passenger are RAV4.

Watcha Lucky,good idea with the dash.My motto is;If it can be modified,modify it:If it can't be modified,modify it any way!It seems to me that having looked at PH extensively over the last few months the current batch of Ultima builders are not affraid to alter their cars(be it wrongly or writely)to suit their particular requirements which is a practice that I have and will always support.On diferent note I see that you are going to Southampton for your SVA.A pal of mine took his GTR there and due to their lack of exprerience/not having done many Ultimas? he said it was a bit of a nightmare.I am going to take mine to where the factory go for a better chance of first time success.Not trying to worrie you,just passing on info.Keep up the good work and fingures crossed for SVA.

Due to time constraints, I wanted only to change what I felt neccessary - but you are right, once you see something that you aren't happy with it just eats away at your head and you know if you don't do it now it'll never get done!

Hmm Southampton, the guy I spoke to on the phone sounded as if he doesn't take any sh1te. Tried both my local ones (Mitcham and Hayes??) but no spaces til June.

What sort of experience did you mate have there?

My 'man' who has done all the electric mods for me is helping me try to achieve the 25th. So the progress you'll see this week and next weekend ain't all my own work!!! It's just that I have booked an instructor for the 3rd June around Goodwood and it won't be quite the same in the maser!

From all that I have heard and read you do not want to go to Southampton. For starters your GTR will require an interior mirror!!!! I know it will just look at the rear bulkhead but the inspector says it's regulation.

I have just spoken to my pal (he goes by the monica of 'Pee' on PH if you want to drop him a line)and he re-iterated what I said earlier.Apparantly they are anal+ and have previously failed a Stealth B6 built by an extremely capable builder and an ex race Mclaren F1.I did ask him to elaborate but he was busy runing his pub although he did mention things like the exhaust protruding 1.5mm to much and a problem with brake bias?.He is adamant that these problems would not have arisin if he had gone to Northampton(see,you got the 'hampton bit correct, just change from South to North?)Once again,not trying to deflate,just info from somone that has had first hand experience. I have just put this post up and after viewing under the thread heading noticed that you intend to be at Goodwood on the 3rd of June.Is this a track day open to anyone and if so who is it booked with?I was looking to attend the 'wood at the begining of next month in my v8 e36 BMW and will be along to see you in your GTR at the very least.Let me know if yiou will,W.

Are you saying that one centres regulations are different from anothers or that their interpretation is different?

I would imagine things as ojective as rear view mirrors in vehicles are qite clearly black or white (or perhaps silver and highly refective?)

Well - must dash......well bulkhead actually!!!

Booked through Goodwood Motorsport. 5 car day (think this means that only 5 are on the track at any one time - not that you and 4 others have the track for the day!!) With an instructor it's about £250 for the day.

To be honest, progress is slow and I'd rather get thinks right and be happy with it than rush to make a track slot.

I'll play it by ear.

The rules are, or should, be the same just a matter of interpretation.
If the rules say it must have an interior mirror but there is nothing to see then other examiners would say forget it. The back edge of the Ultima wing is sharp so needs to be 'rounded' to comply with the 2,5mm radius but some examiners would say that because it is not facing forward, and the reason for the rule is to protect pedestrians, then it does not matter.

As has been said Southampton seem unable to interpret the spirit of the rule and sometimes read even more into them than seems possible. I don't agree that it is inexperience as almost all SVA test stations (16 of them) came into being at the same time.
