So is Alonso light or is Schumacher heavy? If the former, Alonso's got to do an enormous amount of work to produce the requisite gap to get safe in the pitstops...

That said, the local boy is flying.

Not about racing that's for sure.

I think he could be in for a bit of pain in the de-brief!

Who knows what Ron Dennis is thinking. I do however have an issue with drivers blaming the car electronics all of the time when they come off the track.

Montoya blamed the traction control, I thought that these drivers were at the top of their game and they should be able to react to something like that?

Get rid of driver aids, give them a bloody stick shift and let's get back to some good ol' racing!

Ferrari again were awful! Nowhere compared to Renaults.

And with the stupid points system nowadays Michael has no chance of catching Alonso

I agree with you about getting rid of the aids...

But if the aids fail I think it is going to pretty much impossible to catch the car.

IF you don't lean on them as much as possible you will be slower than everyone else.

so, to sum up todays GP, it was very boring because:

the cars can't pass.
the track is not suited to passing.
it's not even exciting to watch a car driving round on its own because they don't slide.
the drivers can't make mistakes (other than turning thw wheel the wrong way or forgetting to brake)

I actually had a little nap during the 2nd half of the race

D_Mike,

I agree with you about catching the car if the traction control fails, I just get really frustrated with drivers who are supposed to be at the top of their game (and paid millions of $!) blaming the car, tyres, track temp etc etc.

I always think that there is no such thing as a bad F1 driver, just better or worse but the quality of drivers coming through the ranks in F2 & F3 are better than our current stock of 'superstar' F1 drivers (all IMHO of course)

The reason for my thoughts is that the F2 & F3 guys don't have the type of driver aids or come to think of it they are not pampered like our current F1 drivers and they can really really drive.

It's a shame when they get to F1 becasue the lose some of those skills and just become a mobile PR machine.

As for the race, dear god, that was boring.

And don't blame the track. What tracks ARE suitable for passing in F1 these days? Those mega-sophisticated venues like Sepang and Bahrain? God help the sport if we have to end up with glorified car parks as the only suitable venues for F1.

Sort the cars out (and the drivers' heads whilst they're at it).

The number of times a driver complains about the car is inversely proportional to how much control they perceive they have on their own and their car's performance.

Driver aid do nothing to enhance the driver's perception of control over their vehicle, and hence their own race-time performance. Traction control being the main culprit, it really should be removed.

As for F2 (perhaps meaning GP2 or F3000) and F3 drivers being "better" than F1, they may appear that way due to the fact that GP2/F3000/F3 drivers are still looking for that Big Break, and much of their on-track performance depends on themselves, rather than the car's technology or pit strategy. Contrary to F1, where drivers tend to be placed in the back seat when it comes to controlling the performance of their own cars -- being highly competitive drivers, the back seat is not where they want to be.

If, at the end of this season, all the current F1 drivers were placed in identical F3 cars and told: "OK, only the top 10 in this race will get paid drives in F1 next season", I'm sure you'll see enough dog-eat-dog racing to satisfy the most bloodthirsty motorsporting appetites.

Have to agree that todays race was little boring, although the races at Barcalona usually are.
