Well have been dreading it but had to fork out £65 for a Sky engineer call out.

Been getting the deadly pixellated screen and intermittent "no satellite signal received" on some channels for a while now.

Reboots of the box and the LNB have effected a cure everytime, but of course sods law says it all goes tits up when away from home and telephone diagnosis no good. Serves me right for not getting my backside in gear and fixing it earlier before off on travels.

Anyway Sky engineer arrived yesterday and for the £65 grrrrr gave us a new LNB and a new funky Sky decoder box, and a new guarantee which all seems OK I suppose.

Though I do wonder how come all other consumer electronics seem to last for ever but Sky stuff claps out after only a few years.

Ask yourself how much you paid for the box when you got it in the first place. Having figured out that Sky lose money on every single box, how much are they going to pay Sir Alan to ensure that all boxes last forever...

You gets what you pays for...

In all fairness the Sky Box is probably the most used appliance in your house, And it has it's work cut out, especially if you watch Crapy Big Brother!

Sorry but that is a crock.

What possible justification is there for what is basically a VERY low spec computer to break so completely after only a few months? So what if it is on all the time?

I've never owned a less reliable product - mine needs the plug pulling at least once a month because it locks up and forgets things... Total crap, if mine ever packs in completely I'll be all over Sky like a horrible rash.

But ours isn't on all the time, it's on standby, just like the telly, in fact they do the same amount of work, ie telly on, sky box on.

I accept the argument that the electronics in the sky box may be of lower quality due to penny pinching.
