The car has just died on me twice, it feels like it may be overheating but the temp guage says not, 100Amp was recently changed, dizzy cap and rotor also changed, any ideas?

Had that problem with mine recently, engine cutting out once hot. after leaving for 20 secs. started and ran ok for ages. turned out to be the ECU. Hope that's not what's wrong with yours.

I've no idea what you mean by "feels like it may be overheating". What are the actual symptoms?

Car starts fine, seems to be ticking over reasonably, took it for a blat, no probs around 20 miles, then as I got near home it started struggling and threatening to stall, got home and it gave up the ghost as I pulled onto my drive. Once it had cooled down started again, no sign of problems, went for another drive it died two miles down the road at some lights and refused to start again (was happily turning over, just not firing)

I would suspect a heat related ignition failure. You could confirm whether it is or not, by seeing what happens to the spark when the problem occurs. If it is this sort of problem you can probably reproduce it just by running the engine stationary for a while.

Any chance of a more laymans terms answer? Sorry I'm still learning the mechanics required to keep this thing moving, even managed to clean the stepper!

Do you have a TVR dealer or specialist in the area?

I'm in Bristol and don't rate my chances of getting as far as the Devon boys.

Coil and/or amplifier. Both are very susceptible to heat and can brake down.

does it only start to die when the fans kick in?

mine did this and the cause was the air pipe from the air filter to the air flow meter had come apart.

hope it is that simple a fix for you.

nope fans hadn't kicked in first time, I guess it's time to change the coil and hope. Bosch PRC6574 right?

Actually scrub that, it has just died again as the fans kicked in, will check the pipes.

This happened to me last year. Turned out to be the ignition module. Very easy to replace, but not cheap, so get it checked first.

Check out my website - www.jsread.com/tvr/blog.php - bottom entry titled 2005-09-03 Misfire cured. Might be worthwhile checking some of the previous entries also (use the 'next' button/link at the bottom of the page)

I'm no expert, but i suspect that a failing sensor gets too hot to function properly after about 20 mins of driving, it then splutters and stalls and wont restart. After a few minutes, it cools down and all seems well again, for another 10 minutes or so.

If you're in the Bristol area give Numbnuts or Silverback Mike a PM, they may be able to take a look over it for you if you ask nicely!!!

..or it just could be an earth connection drying out. The two in the middle of the car can cause a cornucopia of problems for example. Are you still getting the fuel rail pressurising after the cut out btw? if not it could be the fuel pump (or pump wiring, relay, etc). Sadly due to the fairly generic description of the problem you're going to get an awful lot of suggestions of what it "might be"... good luck

Its common to most fuel injected RV8, so most land rover places will do them try famous four, paddock spares or LRDirect, or people like Tim Lamont at ACT.
