Strange Grey Wire...

Playing footie with my son & ball goes under car ... notice odd randaom grey wire poking from under front spolier ...

What the hell is this ... middle of front spolier (of 996)???

it's at front so no need for RMS jokes!!!

Not the temp sender as that is to the left and all wires seem fully attached to that. Will check the fog lamp tonight.
Don't think it can be debris either as seems pretty secure.

Do you have a Tracker? If so, it might be the aerial wire.

Could be coming from the airbag sensor.

My money is still on it being from the collision (airbag deployment) sensor if it's the one I'm thinking of.

Just give it a good hard yank, till it comes out. Then see what doesn't work anymore & there is your answer.

Crash and if the airbag doesn't deploy you'll know I was right

Just had a quick look at mine. The sensor is in the air intake directly below the indicator on the drivers side. Far too wet out there to go crawling around though.

Very unlikely, airbag wires usually have a yellow covering with airbag wiritten on it every few centimetres. Also, unlikely that a sensor wire would be routed under the car.

Yeah my sensor is in the same place too and the connections all look sound (but what so I know!). Presumably if the connections to the air-bag came out / loose you would get an on-screen warning (given the importance of your air-bag in the event of a knock.

This odd wire is more central.

Car goes in for a service next week so I can ask them (but given its going to an OPC I'd kinda like to have some idea about what it is first!).

hi there

i would agree with mart1n its the tracker aerial wire as lots of them were fitted in and around that location on boxsters and 996.... and the aerial wire is thin and grey.

There is no air bag sensors in that area so dont worry about that.

the out side temp dispaly sensor is off to the drivers side so it probably wont be that either.

Car went in for 3 year service yesterday. The grey wire was indeed something to do with the Tracker aerial.

Oh ... and for all these pessimists ... no issues with car so from me its "RMS, what RMS?"
