964 rhd with roll cage ?
Discussion
I know a very long shot but a friend of mine has been looking for a 964 for while now he is looking for a semi track day friendly one.
He is not really into the whole porsche club / pistonheads thing but just fancy's a cheap ish track day toy ?
I have had a look in the specialists near me and but to no avail do you guys know know who might specialise or sell this kind of thing.
My only vested interest is that I might get a go round the track in after he buys it ...... mercenary I know !!!
Thanks
Phib
Will also place add in wanted section

and get your mate to join PCGB (Porsche Club Great Britain - think it's www.pcgb.com and log onto the forums... there's a 964RS board and members often hear of stuff for sale first)

dang... paul at gtclassics has two lovely RHD 964RS clubsports in stock... one in Baron Red and the other in Rubystone (Hooker's Lipstick Pink). Around 40k which is good value as the RHD ones used to be this when the LHDs were at 25k, and now the LHDs are at 30k but the RHDs haven't budged.

Dom,,,they never made any rhd 964 Clubsports mate
They were all lhd for NGT class homologation. The 2 cars listed are clearly lhd anyhow! I don't know if this is too extreme for your friend, it may not even be road registered, but as there are quite a few 964 cup cars on the road, it may only be a handbrake fitment away??

Oops, well done, not sure what was going on there then! Well spotted on the race car for 20k - looks great for the track.

Have passed the info on now and he is going to go and have a look I also remember there being a yellow and black one for sale a while back I think it was one of the porsche parts company demo car, does anyone remember it ?
Re the one at strasse it was originally a carrera 4 shell with a different engine and drive train now fitted and from what they have said it hasn't been raced for while since it has been rejuvinated.
It would need to be set up as well.
19,995 sound about right ?

Yes, it is 10k cheaper than an RS and will owe more in bits. But your friend should consider getting hold of a cheapish 964 for 12k LHD or 15k RHD, then making the mods he wants himself. A cage will be a couple of grand fitted, Recaro buckets a grand a pair (not leather though!), Cup suspension a couple of grand, big brakes a similar amount again... this way he gets exactly the car he wants. His criteria are extremely narrow - track modified C2s are rare as most in his situation have got RSs or Cup cars to fit the bill (or Caterhams, LOL).
I have mentioned to him the issue with finding one and maybe widening the search to 911 with a cage, I have seen a couple of these about and one in the classifieds for 14k
He really dosent want a caterfield, well lets re phrase that his wife dosent want him to have one !!!
So he won't be having one !!
Re the converting one thing I imagine if he goes this route (which I think is a good one), I will end up doing the work and I really havn't got the time
Thanks

The cage thing is no big deal, although I appreciate you don't want to fit it!
My point being that it is better to fit a brand new cage of the correct spec (ali/steel/full/half), that you know has been fitted properly, that you know the history off... to a car that he likes. It's just a simple aftermarket purchase - a bit like insisting on buying a 911 with a strutbrace... when you could buy one and fit it later. Yes, the cage is more involved, but for 2k a decent motorsport outfit will do the supply and fitment.
Many 964s don't have roll cages for insurance issues. Buy the nicest car, regardless of cage, the fit the cage after if it's missing> job done.

Has your mate considered a 968 Clubsport? His budget will get him a sorted car that will hold its value, probably be cheaper to run than a 964, and handle better. A 1/2 cage is around £500.

Good and bad idead. Defo will handle better unless 964 on RS/Cup suspension. May not necessarily be cheaper to run. Not as quick in a straight line and engine note not as nice. Interesting thought tho'
