Well Pistonheads strikes again as a fantastic place to meet not just fellow car nuts but business contacts too. I posted up a while ago about looking for a job doing technical type sales & marketing. I was after a job to fill in on the days when I'm not instructing or running drift events, lo & behold an offer comes out of the blue from Mikeg996 & I'm now working for them remotely on a part time basis helping them expand their exchange server consultancy business.

So spent the past few weeks getting my head around all the jargon clients, vpn's, imap, security features, remote features you name it, learning how it all works & what it all does

Glad to say I won't be needing to learn ALL of it!! (but will try) My job description therefore appears to be "Remote executive customer liason, marketing & business development" just chat to clients & keep them updated & happy, find them new ones & help them grow the business that sort of thing.

So expect me to be posting somewhat less during the days!!

So what does everyone else do in this forum? come on who's got the largest, geekiest IT Job description

My job title goes from uber-cool to geeky in the space between 2 words -
SAS Programmer

Maybe I should just drop the programmer bit when I tell people what I do

Well, I can't claim a fancy job title: "self employed geek" seems to just about cover it! My Degrees sound fancier though. B.Sc.(Hons.) Information Technology (Systems Development) and M.Sc.(Eng.) Radio Communications and High Frequency Engineering generally take more than the allowed space in application forms!

What it boils down to is that electronic engineering design is what I'm trained to do and experienced in, but there's naff all work in that so I scrape around maintaining PC networks for small businesses (which I can do but can't afford the industry certs - catch 22). [ObPimp: If anyone knows of any electronics design jobs around Yorks, I'd be grateful if you would point me in the right direction - ta!]

Quality! Maybe I should try that here @ TfL - you can update your own phone book entry online...

Official title is IT Specialist

Basically it means that if it has a plug on it, I'm the person to speak to if it goes wrong, needs moving, updating, or generally if you've just deleted that important file which you've not bothered to save throughout the day cos pressing that save button is just too damn tiring isn't it.

end users....grrr

Hold it right there buster....if it has a plug on it and has been moved, you just make sure
you fully PAT test it before switching back on or there'll be trouble!

That's why my previous job title was "Technology Manager", given that the users used to bring us anything and everything to fix ("Just give it to the geeks on the 4th floor - they'll be able to fix it..."

Nice one cptsideways!

If anyone else has part time work for geeks I'm open to offers! I have 1 gig one day a week doing support (Reality database systems), and the rest of the time I'm developing software in asp.net, but something else to pull in a bit of steady cash would be great.
