How the hell do you copy music from an ipod to the library of itunes? I'm damned if I can figure it out.

TIA

I'm pretty sure you can't do it that way round (supposedly to stop you copying other people's music  )

I'm sure you're only doing it with your own music though, so you might have more luck with some different software, such as ephpod.

PC or Mac?

You normally need a 3rd party utility, but think it can be done easily on a PC.

Apple haven't integrated this into iTunes to prevent people 'stealing' music from friend's iPods.

Along similar lines, are there any hacks to iTunes to allow you to create playlists from shared music?

I set up mt-daapd on my server, but it's not really much use as you have to add the actual folders to all the iTunes clients to allow you to set up playlists and copy stuff down to the iPod.

Connect Ipod to PC - do not open itunes (you may need to turn off the options for "open itunes when Ipod is connected" ) open the drive letter your ipod is connected to (F: etc.) ensure the display hidden files is ticked in your folder options. Open directories "ipod_Control" then "music". Ctrl - A, Ctrl - C and paste into a directory on your hard drive (naming it "ipod music" or something). Open the "ipod music" directory on you have just filled with hidden F00 - F49 directories on you hard drive, select all and unhide them in the properties.

Open Itunes - select file and import directory - pick "ipod music" and let it find all the files.
