Keith - what are the track tyres?

For road use, and not super-hard like the original Goodyears were on mine, I could recommend Kumhos, W rated. For the 16" equipped cars these worked out at £105 each supplied, subsequently my Mum got a quote for hers £86 ea fitted. Normally it seems the 17's can be had cheaper, they were fitted to more cars I think (16" size, well 255/50/16's were only fitted to Corvettes of the time and some of the fully optioned Firebirds)

track tyres are simply very soft rubber compounds - you can get them with tread patterns to suit legal road use but they are very sofy/grippy and wear out fast

TWI = Tread Wear Indicatior - higher the number the harder the tyre
normal = 350-280 good road grip = 250-200 track/race >100

Kuhmo Ecsta tyres seem well priced at the mo but the TWI is 320, Sumitomo are rated at 220 all well priced.
I have no probs with finding Corvette sizes in USA but I think 255/50/16's are tricky in UK as are 275/40/17 - typically people choose 245 or 265 tyres in UK as they ar emore available

the issue (if there is one) with my supply is that you have to pay to fit/balance etc - wher as if you buy in UK normally thats a fitted price (plus balancing)

I think the Goodyears are 300 - its in v small print on the tyre wall

I've found hardly any tyres in 265/40/17 !.. much more plentiful in 275/40/17
