Hi everyone

I am buying a 1997 chimaera 4.0 in an area around newcastle and I need insurance for 1-2 days so I can drive the car
to Immingham to be exported to Iceland (where I live). The trouble is that I am a non uk resident!!

Does anyone know of a way I can get insurance, I do have family living in the UK that have insurance if that can help me in
any way.

Please anyone???

Not actually answering the question, but wouldn't it be simplest to get someone else to drive it there for you for a few beers..? It will cost a let less than short-term insurance.

That would help, but my schedual is a bit tight and I would have to ask someone to take a day or 2 off work.
Also if I have the car shipped its expensive and I have to pay 40% tax 25% VAT on top of that amount when the
car arrives in Iceland.

Also, I was just really excited about getting to drive the car myself

Ask the family in the Uk if they can insure the car as a temporary additional vehicle and add you as a listed driver.

Not sure how much they'll charge since you don't have a UK licence though!

Can't you insure it in Iceland and get a temporary extension for the UK trip? I guess you will want it insured while on the boat too.

Thansk for the advice guys.

The family is checking if I can get insured as an additional driver.
As for the shipping, the car is covered by a separate cargo insurance.

Looking forward to driving the car, I know the previous owner and trust him so
this will be the only chim that i am looking at and hopefully it will be as
much a joy as all of you say it is.

you have to be careful with this. Even if you are fully comp insured to drive any car you are actually not covered unless the car you are driving is already insured in the UK. YOu will be best to take out a policy on the car and then cancel a couple of days later, at worst you will only have to pay a 50quid admin charge or something.
