Hey everyone, I've posted a couple of times already on the bike forum but just thought I'd introduce myself properly. I pick up my first bike, a Kwak Ninja 636 A1 on Friday. I'm rather excited as you can imagine, even though I can't ride it for a couple of weeks since I don't have my license yet, due to complete idiocy on my part. I'll get some pics on my profile when I have my lovely silver dream machine

The complete idiocy on my part was getting caught at 98mph on the queens highway, hence having to hand my license in, hence not being able to do my test. Not best pleased to say the least

Oops! Minor misdemeanour!! Numerous points I imagine not to ignore the expense also. There by the grace of God go we all>

I got off lightly since I was stopped on a motorway. Even so, three points and £60 is the lightet penalty I could have expected so it could have been much worse. I'm just very annoyed that it put everything back by a few weeks. The bike is sitting at the dealer's, paid for waiting for me to pick it up. The very definition of frustration

What a coindence. I too, a few year ago, also got caught speeding on the motorway. 98mph. SP50 if I am correct.

However, I am not in the police.

3 points & £60 fine...... if only

I tried the "I work for the Police" line (I'm not an officer by the way). Was told I should know better then. I was just very gracious and curteous, and obviously got an alright copper. He could have given me 6 points and £180, or sent me straight to court. I count myself very lucky, because if he'd given me either of the above, I wouldn't be getting a bike.

Can you imagine the insurance for a 21 year old, zero no claims with 6 points for speeding on a Kwak 636?

Bit harsh that, 70mph is an utterly ludicrous limit for a modern car on a motorway. The standard of driving is another question entirely. I think my fine was possibly tempered by the fact that it was 10:45 at night and the motorway was completely deserted (but unlit, which is why I didn't spot the Volvo following me at a respectful difference). I was furious at the time. I'd much prefer a system where you are given something like a £90 on the spot fine and no points. Then the punishment wouldn't last for three years.

Anyway, I didn't want this to turn into a speeding rant. Hopefully I should get the bike within the next few weeks, I can't wait to just get on with learning to ride the thing

Why were you furious - you must have known you were speeding surely?
