Speed camera detectors

Get whichever one has GPS to tell you of black spots, SPECS and static cameras as this is obviously useful, ignore the laser/radar detector "specifics" because they are all crap, most will come with the detector but it will drive you mad, automatic doors on petrol stations and supermarkets send them false signals and the thing will constantly beep, besides if it gives you a laser warning it's too late, you're nicked!!!
What you really need to install is a laser jammer, yes they are border line illegal but there are some out there that come with an exterior light for your house, as you pull up the light comes on so you have a plausible reason for having a laser device fitted to your car, the good ones aren't cheep but far better than loosing your licence! If you get caught it will either be by a static camera on an unfamiliar road or by a random officer with a laser gun, so you need a GPS camera detector (mines a snooper S6R Neo) and a Laser jammer/diffuser like a Snooper SLD 920 laser detector and diffuser and you will be as safe as houses. I had one fitted recently. I've had it tested and it works and is legal!!
wait, that parking sensor is active all the time? so whenyoure sitting bunched up in traffic, its beeping?
and if so, the laser is emitted all the time? which >cough< causes the road accident traffic vermin partnership troubles? but surely the frequency and positioning of the laser must play a part in the effectivness of its >ahem< side effect?

After much deliberation I've decided to take the plunge and buy a radar detector too. Problem is that I live in France where monsieur plod will give me a severe whack if I'm caught with it, but I'm getting tired of being flashed by their mobile radar installations on dead straight M-ways late at night.
Hence my requirements are for a radar detector that's small (i.e. can quickly stuff it into hiding) and is screened (i.e. is undetectable itself). Not too fussed by the efficiency against lasers because my problem is mostly M-ways at night where it's inevitably radar traps. Any recommendations gratefully received.
Oh, and a word of warning. I have read on a froggy porker forums that le fuzz go apeshit bonkers if their laser gun returns a jammed signal, so be very careful about using your garage door openers or parking aids in France.

Pure GPS units without any built in detectors are fine and legal - plenty of french people driving around with PDS and Tom-toms with the radar sites marked as the info's made public (e.g. www.radarsfixes.com/). However, I don't know if the french police would recognise all the british models, so there is always the risk that they might be hard to convince that there is no detection function.
In all fairness to the french, at least their anti-speeding campaign does seem to have had a positive effect on the number of road deaths and they're also refreshingly frank compared to the british authorities about their intentions to make money out of speeders. Still pisses me off though - moved to le pays de la liberté and they cracked down...

Autobahns have many restricted areas e.g near junctions, very (relatively) curvy sections etc. Yes there are cameras on some of the restricted sections. Most people stick to the limits when in those zones so it works quite well. Very few people exceed the limits by much in built up areas which is quite refreshing.
