Racing championship - AMOC Intermarque.

Ok here's flying a kite. Who wants to come racing? The Aston Martin club run a series where groups of 5 cars from a marque compete against other groups. I'm game to have a go but we'll need 4 other cars to qualify. So who wants to go racing? Overall it works out in terms of cost/enjoyment about the same as track days i.e. its more expensive but orders of magnitude more fun. You'll need a rollcage (can be put in without cutting the bodywork), a fire extinguisher and a harness. If you enter this you'll also be eligble to enter the Midenginedsportscars series. Come on who's up for it. Show this old codger some balls.

I would love to but don't want to mess the inside of the car up to fit the roll cage also means having to trailer the car to events.

No reason why need to trailor. In unmodified class the car can be driven to the circuit. Mine used to be and still could be but the logistics make it easier.

Yes they'd need to pass an ARDS test and get a National B license. Anyone who's contemplating doing this should be able to stroll through the ARDS test.

I'll be back for Snetterton complete with new engine (Honda + supercharger).

To be honest I'm beginning to wish I'd coverted my M400 to race. Obviously its got plenty of power and I reckon the handling is better than my elise even in road going set up! The Elises are a bit twitchy at the limit to say the least.

Converting a Noble to race spec (for National B races) can be inexpensive.

To comply with MSA regularions you need:

A diagonal on the main rollover hoop, and bigger back stays
A fire extinguisher
A battery cut out

These can be fitted very discretely, without any external cutting of the body.

Interesting... not at all convinced I'm even nearly quick enough though. I see a good time for the Noble round Donny is 1:17 - 1:18. I managed 1:22 - 1:23 in the old Cerbera (with significant Craner bottleage!) so, be interesting to see how I get on in the M400...

Well Washy, for the 2005 Donningtopn meeting I qualified for the MESC race doing a 1:22 and for the endurance race a 1:41 (but that was with injector problems). So if you can do 1:22 in a TVR you'll be plenty quick enough in your M400.

The TVR did have Nitrons and was running Dunlop SSR's at the time. I'm looking forward to my first opportunity for a direct comparison with the M400. After Silverstone GP the other week I'm starting to settle in to the car now.

Washy, the point is that doing that sort of time means you would be on the pace from the start. If came racing you wouldn't be at the back, you'd be in the midst of the pack.

You know I want to race, and this is really going below the belt.....

I actually spent a fair bit of cash on my car to get it race spec, but as some of you know that did'nt work out quite the way I planned.

However given that I know I've got a M15 coming next year, perhaps it's time to get racing the M12.

Mmmmmmmm.

Yes I'm tempted (that obvious huh) but it'll need some serious commitment hence some serious thought.
