I am not an expert in this subject, but we took over a similar building, with from memory a similar supply.

It was pretty easy for us to get it reduced,by the people who hold the contract for the estate that we are on.

I will try and dig out some further info whwen I am in the office next(I am off sick at the moment)

Who do you have a supply contract with,Powergen?

Would it not be worth contacting another supplier with a view to switching to them? They might want the business and so be a bit more helpful!

We have an industrial estate with about 15 tenants on it. We have exactly the same issue but the power companies are not interested unless you're willing to pay.

They are only willing to supply to one point on our estate and, even though it is high voltage and we don't need it anymore, they have met their obligation.

The problem is that, to bypass the sub-station and the high voltage equipment and put a lower supply into your location is going to cost you and you'll probably need an electrical company capable of working on high voltage kit to quote for the work on your side of the meter, plus you'll have recabling costs and maybe even the cost of hiring a generator whilst the work is ongoing.

On top of that, the electrical company will have to feed your new meter with a low voltage supply instead of 11k volts.

In the end, we chose to live with the high voltage system.

Good luck!

Ask your current supplier who the Local Installations Regulator is- they are the only local people authorised by the Power Co's to carry out metering/switching & distribution work on commercial premises. Contact them to inspect & recommend you a new system, then pass their report to your Power Co & ask them to act on that. This work can only be authorised by the owner of the premises/ your landlord though.....

Do you mean 11KV supply, as in 11,000 volts?

11KVA is a measure of power rather than voltage and is smaller than a domestic supply.

You should be able to switch power supplier and negotiate new terms with them. The billing for commercial supplies often includes standing charges for the capacity available to you.
