Started taking out the Mota from my 91 ZR-1 today to replace the sump aswell as a few mods, first thing to do was disconect the battery, jack up the car and remove the road wheels then drain the coolant from the rad and oils from the engine and gearbox.
Low and behold rain stops play which was handy really because Mr C5ragtop turned up sporting the new Borla exhaust, must say it sounds better on a C5 than on a C4,sounded very good

Yes - I was there. Saw the new wheels and brakes too - very impressive.

Hats off to Cliffy - nothing seems to daunt him (it would me).

engine will come out with headers on still. Has to be lifted out front end angled high. I would take the extensinon off the headers to keep them as short as posible though.

As usual one job leads to another when something doesnt go quite to plan.
We started stripping out the underneath crossmembers etc which involved taking off the engine mount chassis nuts, all going great till one of the engine mount nuts siezes on the thread and the thread just spins .
We than decided to take off the stock exhaust manifolds to try to access the mount easier, how difficult a job was that,a lot harder than aftermarket headers, still we got them off and once i set about the nut tomorrow i can see if the sump will pull off.
Thanks for your help Brett.

Cliff, if you're going to start some serious pushing and shoving on the car those weenie axle stands don't look very secure and I can't see any wheel chocks on the rears. Suggest you get some more protection in place. Even putting the removed wheels under the sills will give you some protection if the car decides to fall on your head. Too many people have been injured or died under their cars already.

Looking forward to your regular updates and photos of this project!

Thanks for your concerns Steve, hey! you read my mind ime very cautious when working under cars and have put the chocs at the rear unfortunately they are hidden by the wide tyres ,i also put the wheels under the sills but took them away for photographic reasons, always best to be safe than sorry
Ile take some more photos as i go.

been there, done that... twice...

But it took me a whole weekend instead of the 2 hours that Milstead quotes in his article.
I lifted the engine from above with a hoist, so I had to remove the headers,How are you planning to remove yours? from under?

Cliff has my engine lift so it would have been from above but the engine is likely to stay more or less in place now and the sump worked on from below.

How is your engine coming along??
