Seem to have some sort of virus so I have decided to format the h/d and start again. I have a back up h/d on the machine so I have moved all my files across, but there are a couple of things I cant access:-

emails - is it possible to save them and then restore them to the "new" outlook express? I know how to save them as *.ema files, but can`t work out how to get them back.

favourite websites - same?

TIA

Steve

You entire mailbox is stored as a .pst (perhaps?) file. You can export your entire mailbox through the OE file menu, just save this off.

Favourites are stored in a specific directory, just save each of the files in that directory and install them post rebuild.

Thank you. Is that one mailbox for each address? i.e 4 files for four addresses?

I believe so.

I havent used OE for a while though so cant be sure.

The file menu export may start a wizard that will just walk you through it.

Don't know about the email, but...in case you weren't already thinking of doing so...
make sure you do a full scan and fix of any files that you back up, before opening them
or copying them back to your newly installed machine, otherwise you'll just be in the
same mess as you are now!
Depending on the virus, there is a chance that the files may be rendered useless once
the virus is removed. Lets hope not.

Er which version of outlook.

If it's Outlook express mail is stored in DBX files, Typically in C:Documents and Settings<userName>Local SettingsApplication DataIdentities{<big long ID string>}MicrosoftOutlook Express

One file for each mail folder Back up this whole folder.

Post rebuild this folder will be created by default, just put your folder in it's place.

There's a settings transfer wizard which would enable you to retain your preferences.
