Printer Problem

Just bought a printer off Ebay (one day I will learn not to do that), and its arrived and of course its not a happy printer. It has a page count of 2700, so I'm assuming the low yeild cartridges are on their way out but can't check that for sure till tomorrow.
The printer will print pages, but only stuff near the right hand edge. anything on the left or middle is missing and it fades into print on the right.
Changed the drum for a known drum without much success. Cartridges could be suspect but ALL colours and black are missing from the missing area and present on the right, which makes me think its not low cartridges.
If its a toner problem the only thing i can think of is that the printer has been stored in its box on its side and all the toner is hardened in one corner - but knowing nothing about toner i'm probably wrong.
