Possibly the Stepper motor, it controls the idle, may need cleaning.

Ant's right. Also isn't disconnecting the distributor vacuum advance (and blocking the throttle body vacuum pipe on the throttle body) supposed to cure this sometimes? Also worth checking timing, and checking for air leaks after the air flow meter - ie the flexible 90deg 'elbow' and the seal between plenum and trumpet base.

I had a similar problem with my pre cat it turned out to be the ECU.

Yup it was a dirty stepper motor!
