Anyone use the Canon 70-200mm f4 L ??
Discussion
Hey,
Currently looking at a telephoto lens for my 30D, would like to purchase something before the BH weekend in time for the Rally Cross close to me (Lydden Hill).
Does anyone have this lens? I'm thinking of mainly motorsport with probably a 1.4x teleconverter for an extra bit of reach, this would stop it down to f5.6 right? Not a problem when you need slower shutter speeds for panning shots anyway.
I'm also looking at the lens as a travel lens as it's a lot lighter compared to the f2.8 version (not to mention much cheaper!). Although the Sigma version of the 2.8 is tempting but the weight puts me off a little.
I can't see me using the lens much in low light, and if I do then I can bump the ISO upto 400 without fear of noise.
So does anyone have this lens, how do you feel about it? Would like to hear some views.
Just leaves a general walkabout lens after this one and them I'm done... for a little while anyway!
Cheers
James

I have one James , used on 350d & 30d is a highly rated and respected lens , generally considered Canons intro to the L class , its fast focussing, light, sharp and contrasty with good colour, the 1.4x slows the focus down somwhat and still may leave you a bit short on range far some circuit usage but the IQ means yo can crop to counter this . highly recommended at around £400
