TVR racer changes cars

Cliff Jobson to race a T350 in 2007

TVR T350
TVR T350
Owner/driver Cliff Jobson and constructor Track Car Solutions (TCS) will be racing a TVR T350 in the Dunlop Tuscan Challenge Cup next year -- a big step forward after two seasons with a twin turbo 24-valve Tasmin.

In 2007 the T350 will line up alongside the Tuscan racers, the Sagaris-bodied, Tuscan chassis cars, the modified Griffiths and Chimaeras and the Tasmins in what promises to be the most diverse grid ever assembled in TVR racing. The team's current Turbo Tasmin will also be available for hire with a full race support package.

Sponsorship activity

Much activity has been going on behind the scenes assessing suitability of current TVR models and assembling a team of technical specialists and sponsors committed to a successful racing programme. As a result, the partnership has announced partnerships with TVR Craft, Protech, Silverstone Performance and Solafloor.

Track Car Solutions will draw on its experience of racing, tuning and modifying TVR sports cars to oversee the race car build and development programme. TVR Craft is the engine builder, using its engineering expertise and knowledge of the Speed Six makes them to build and maintain the engine, clutch and gearbox package.

The suspension design and development will be in conjunction with Protech Dampers with whom TCS already has a good working relationship. Road-going double adjustable dampers will draw directly on the testing and feedback generated during the development programme on the T350 racer.

The car's lightweight SP12 racing wheels from TVR specialist Silverstone Performance are 25 per cent lighter and considerably stronger than TVR’s standard 18-inch wheel. Solafloor supplies heating products and has agreed a sponsorship deal to raise its brand awareness in the UK.

The team is currently negotiating further deals to fill the remaining two sponsorship placements on the car.

Looking good, It will be interesting to see how a speed6 engined car performs against the Rover v8's and the AJP's etc.

Things are looking up with another new driver confirmed from Rockingham and the rumor of a v8 wedge comming out to play shortly, and not forgetting the very special s3

Julian what's happening? A speed 6 race car and a Tuscan on your home page?

It will be good to see how the new car gets on. Looking at the people involved I would think it'll do well

There's been a lot going on behind the scenes for quite a few months now. We always knew that it was going to be difficult getting a Tasmin near the front unless we put another chassis underneath it. I wanted the car to stay as a Tasmin (it still has the early trailing arm rear suspension) but obviously this does limit development somewhat although there are still a couple of mods being made to the car before Snetterton.

The bottom line is we needed a much better starting point. I still wanted to race a modified road car not a Tuscan racer. I considered a Cerbie and if my heart had chosen thats what I'd be racing in 07 but my head says the T350 is a much better option, smaller, lighter, nimble plus enormous potential from the Speed 6. The engine deal is fantastic news for us and I'm absolutely delighted to have the support of TVR Craft. I'm sure they'll supply us with a storming motor next season.

On the suspension side I'm really looking forward to working with Protech on the devlopment of the dampers, I know Joolz rates them very highly and (hot off the presses) powerflex have joined the team too. To top it all off Silverstone Performance will be supplying us with their new wheels. I saw these at the recent Champ Cars opening weekend and they looked stunning on the black Tamora...can't wait to see them on the racer. Roll on 2007.

Good luck with the venture Cliff & Jools! You're going to need a lot of power but I'm sure you'll get off to a good start.

I wish I could remember your previous colours - although I do have a suspicion that I know the answer. I'm really looking forward to seeing the car and, more particularly, the driver out there.

Hi John,

Be good to see you in the paddock again.............preferably with a car

I'll have had a couple of seasons racing the Taz and I wanted a more modern car for next year, the T350 with a speed 6 engine is a logical choice. My turbo taz will be available for rent next year and should hopefully bring another driver to the grid. Thankfully numbers seem to be on the increase now with the 'new guy' with us from Rockingham, George joining in with his Serbera and hopefully the return of the Thorpedo. If we can get just a few more tuscans then 20 car grids are a distinct possibility.

You will see me in the paddock but without the car as the series has move on too much to be comtpetitive in the taz as it is. I think I am resigned to the fact that I will only get rid of the car as a trackday car, or I suppose I could wang a 5L v8 in it for next season (anyone got one spare? will it fit? need to renew the exhaust? need a new gearbox? change the fuel tank? to fit new tyres? new wheels? complete rewire the list is endless and I'm getting depressed again cos I cant cope with this cold turkey of no racing!!)
