Hi chaps

I'm looking at buying a GT2 - why ?
Because i currently drive a very scary 930 - 400Bhp - but it's not a car that I can drive across europe or would really want to drive up to scotland etc

I haven't really liked the GT3's and the Turbo 4's are a bit heavy and a bit safe

Basically I like a car to scare me a little

However - the wish money says don't buy one - even though for 50k I think it's a bargain

Oh, bu99er. What am I letting myself in for...and I'm pondering on 1500 for a 944. Should I just quit now and stick with my 5 series and get the Cayenne next year when I trade it in

even my mate at Porsche is saying don't !
he's saying the GT3 beats it hands down - drivability/usability etc

One previous owner sold his, because he'd couldn't use it as it was too low - the splitter touches every speed bump in london - which would be a problem

Quite right too - it's sounds perfect for your described journeys. It certainly has the ability to scare, with no PSM etc, but is extremely accomplished. It's a bargain at this kind of money......

Seriously, I'm in the sub £30K 996 market (yes you can get them without ruining your bank balance and having the RMS changed twice a day!) and I saqw a £62K GT2 at my local indie on Saturday. Absolutely immaculate, less then 13,000 miles and it just had so much presence it was incredible - and that was standing still with the engine off! On the road..... well it was simply a rocketship. I imagine that GT3 is a more involving drive, but if she who must be obeyed (most of the time) would let me I'd re-mortage the house/dogs/kids to get a GT2.......

Woof, that's Crap...take it from me, those guys at Porsche know 'jack' - I could show you as many people who think the GT2 is a better road car (let's not start that one up again). I bought one in preference to a GT3, and would do the same again. It's horses for courses - go and try one, I don't think you'll be disappointed. GT3 is a fine car, but will not have the ability to scare like a GT2....IMHO of course

Horses for courses, but GT3s+GT2s don't like speed bumps. Most you can take diagonally and be ok, but you'll get idiots trying to undertake you in the middle of the procedure every so often.

Could possibly jack the ride height a bit though if you wanted. If you aren't tracking it then I can't see the problem with that.

Anyway at 50k they are a bargain, especially if you like turbos. People generally seem to prefer the GT3 as its a more subtle tool and easier to exploit, but if you like turbos I can't see you being disappointed. Especially if you like a handfull!

The reason people rave about GT3s is that they are a brilliant balance of grip, handling and power. The GT2s are a bit more skewed towards power+torque!

cheers - i think you know where i'm coming from

only concern is that it was Damon Hill's - and it had a new engine at 28k (the new 480BHP engine)
very spec'd up - on the downside it's got ceramics

Not been too concerned with the various threads on PCCB's but do they wear out - I assume they do but have a longer wear rate ?

That'll be from the P1 club then - so you'll know it's been hammered, but the upside will be the very comprehensive (no expense spared) service history......

They do wear out, so take a good look at them. If they are dying, then budget about 2.5k to replace with top quality Alcon steels.

I'd also check carefully for accident damage, for obvious reasons given the cars past usage!

Gt2 is hard work imo, reminds me of a 1985 gsxr 750 suzuki..great in a straight line and to talk about in the pub..but ultimately heavily flawed..anyone had a gt2 for more than a year?
