Mid 70's 911

A friend of mine is tentatively looking for the above , although he knows little of what he should look out for ... Any advice ?
It has to be '76 or earlier to qualify for the low tax / insurance ... It'll be garaged and a weekend beetle-about-mobile.

It has to be pre 72 to qualify for free tax, anything made in or before 72 will do.

Also, classic insurance is available for 911s over 10 years old, with limited mileage and if it's garaged.

Sorry guys . You're thinking of a different country... 30 years old in Ireland to qualify for 'antique' tax and insurance.

Hey Ballcock, I'm up north here - what a good idea to have a rolling 30 year classification rather than some arbitrary 1972. What the feck is so special about 1972 anyway??

Tell you're mate to subcribe to 911 & Porsche World for a while, great mag, lots of buyers guides available. Also there's a few books detailing model ranges over the years - I found these invaluable during the search for my 1980 SC. '76 or before gives him a choice between the earlier 3.0 cars right back to the beginning. The '74 and before cars are becoming very expensive. Also, Porsche only started to galvanise the 911 in 1975 (I think). I'd go for a '76 3.0 or a '75 2.7. Then there's always the mental 930 - the first turbo 3.0 911 with apparently mental but very sudden acceleration.
