Urgent advice needed

Hi I am close to agreeing to buy my first wedge it is a mrk1 and I am told it is a tasmin 350i 1 of only 40 or so that carried the tasmin name before it was dropped for the straight 350i could this be correct ?? also it is said to have a galvo chasis where there any made with these ? As you maybe guesed I cant veiw the car and are a little worried my first wedge will be a dog here is a link to it's ebay auction

It looks tidy enough, but you really do need to see and drive these cars (and / or get someone familiar with them to do so). According to the Robson book, the Tasmin designation was dropped late '84. IMHO you cannot ascribe any greater value to one just because of the name. Never heard of TVR doing galvanised chassis - but I guess lots of things may have been done to special order. I personally would look at several to get a feel for what is good and not so good. If you are really interested you could do worse than join the TVRCC and get to see some owners Wedges. And get a copy of the Bible - invaluable even pre-purchase.

Don't just bid on ebay and get stuck with something you don't want - go and have a look at it first and make your own mind up. Someone elses description of their car might not be how you would describe it. There are plenty of good wedges out there if you look for them.
Just a work of warning, have a good look round the car and at outriggers BEFORE you hear the engine rip into life and go for a drive. As soon as you drive one, you will fall in love with it and you'll be thinking "its only a small crack and the rust isn't tooooo bad and I can live with the ripped seat..." rather than actually thinking if its the wedge for you.

Wedges never had galvanised chassis' that I know of. Some did have a superb epoxy coating (usually light grey) but most seem to have been painted black.

you need to get out and look mate!!. Don't sit on ya ass and wait for a goodun to come to you because they rarely do. I travelled 7 hours to view mine before I bought it. But was willing to go home empty handed if it wasn't right. There is some real crackers for sale at the moment, but choose carefully. You can't take them back..T

If you are serious about owning one of these, you have to be prepared to travel to get a good one - if you wait for a good one, to your spec to pop up on your doorstep, saddam hussain will have been elected president of the USA before that happens!
I speak from personal experience - I travelled to Falkirk for mine - yes 380 miles away!
& it didn't skip a beat all the way back
unfortunatly I have just sold it, but the buyer took the risk to travel to me saw the reason why I travelled to Falkirk to get it! (& I hope he keeps it in the same condition!)
Also - the guy who started this thread, if the Ebay seller has not included any photos of the chassis, or have not detailed the condition in any way - GET IT INSPECTED!!

5 DONT BUY ANYTHING OFF EBAY FOR THAT MUCH MONEY ON THE STRENGTH OF A FEW PHOTOS, SEE 3
6 BE PREPARED TO WALK AWAY.

Agree, - we looked at our first 400SE just up the road from us but ended up looking at one in Blackburn (4hrs drive away!!) We were prepared to walk away but didn't have to. Getting it back to deepest Essex was an epic day though...
Two years ago, when I was first looking for a wedge, I almost believed the seller and bought without seeing. He told me it was 1st class condition, well looked after and that he was a TVRCC member. I decided to travel 3 hours to view it and boy was I glad. It took me 10 seconds to decide No. Nothing on the car was nice. to say I was dissapoined is an understatement. Carpets were ripped and so grubby I had to wipe my feet before I got out. Engine was held together with insolation tape, dash board was falling to bits. I could go on, I told the guy he must be blind to think it was 1st class. the point is- LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP
