I take it GT1 is the new GT2 and GT2 is the new GT3? Do the FIA still have a different naming system? It can't help to get people interested in the sport when the keep confusing things by changing the names every couple of years.
And what is the point of the lower prototype class? I seem to remember that recently they have been slower than the GTs.

And of course the Porsche's running in GT2 are actually called GT3's.

And so are the ones racing in the new FIA GT3 Championship... In Belcar racing some teams use the turbocharged Porsche GT2s....in the GT1 class, while a few years ago there was a Porsche team (RWS) running a GT3 Porsche in the GT2 class, which would now be the GT1 class.
It's hard enough explaining my sport to people at the best of times, but when they change the class names like that it becomes impossible. "So if your Mosler is a GT2 that would've raced against the GT2 Vipers I saw at Le Mans a few years ago then?" "Well, no, because, you see, erm..."

Porsche has its own designations for GT2 and GT3, not necessarily in line with FIA or any other designation.
Porsche largely invented the GT3 class (GT2 as it is now) and the 993 GT2 was a homologation special for the GT2 class of the original BPR GT series, so the names were applied entirely in line with the classes they raced in. See also 911 GT1.
Unfortunately for Porsche the FIA changed the class names, which has buggered up their badging a little.
