When I bought the Tam, I promised myself that I wouldn't work out the MPG as it would just scare the sh!t out of me, and make me too frightened to drive it in case I couldn't pay the petrol bill at the end of the month.

So today I worked out the MPG.... Now, I'd just done a round trip of approxiately 265 miles on the A31, M27, M3, M25, M26, M20 and obviously back again. Just over 40 litres when I filled up on returning home.

Sure about the mileage - I know it's about 132 miles each way. Can't argue with the fuel; kept trickling more in to make sure it was full, and checked the fuel gauge after - 54 litres.

So is my calculator wrong? I make it more or less 30 MPG... That's better than my supercharged MX5.

What's going on? I wasn't driving hard, but nevertheless this is mad.

Sounds about right.

I normally get about 28 - 30 on a long run.

BMW 330Ci courtesy car got 29 on the same run, and it was painfully slow as well.

Tam is just ticking over at 70, so I guess it doesn't need much fuel.

Crikey.

Even more smiles then. Happy to see her suck fuel when giving it some stick, but really really happy to know I can take her out on a long run and not break the bank. I do that run twice every other weekend to collect and return my son from and to his Mum, and as he's a 15 year old he obviously loves the Tam. Nice to think I can always give him an extra grin by collecting him in it.

I might have to pop out to the garage and tell her just how much I love her... again.

2.5k on the clock now, and it's opening up very nicely. Must get the ride drive booked before too long.

Good Fuel Economy aswell eh? Hmm.. the reasons soon add up - I might be able to convince the old man to make an investment before oil runs dry
