Insurance Quote Engine

oh dear - I'm currently insured with tesco for a Fiat Seicento Schumacher (basically a sporting with the options book thrown at it) fully comp is £588 with 3 years no claims (i'm 20 and do 12k per year)- your quote? £849!!!! no thanks mate + the excess is £250 and tesco don't charge me one. hmmm anyway I will keep trying it JIC
Ted,
the list of modifications didn't include LPG/Dual Fuel. If you do include this, insurers want to know if it's an LPGA approved installation too. Perhaps 2 LPG options in the list 1 for LPGA approved and 1 for not approved?
Other than that it handled my mistakes well. The quote was pretty competetive too!

The thing that always winds me up about these online quotes is having to fill in all the information and then getting to the point where it is decided that I can't be quoted.
It would be great if they could ask these critical questions up front so you could exit without having to type all the information in.
In the example I tried, it refused to quote because I specified a modification (only after filling in four or five pages of information). It would be nice if the first question was "is the car modified?".

Thanks guys. As I said, I'm not responsible for the way the system works so have little say in modifying that.
What I'm interested in is whether it's providing useful quotes. If it's not then I'll not bother integrating it with the site and I'll consider setting up something similar myself in conjunction with more specialist brokers.

You mean you wont insure a 18year old male on a cebera 4.5. Why ever not? Looks easy to use. Will members of PH get a discount?

That *really* winds me up. Direct Line, Tesco's, NU *all* do that 5 pages and then "no quote - we don't cover your car"
So why not ask the car as the first thing then idiot! *sigh* - HCI interface design is a lost art.

I may be an awkward case, but it only managed a 1317 quote as opposed to the (approx.) 680 I'm currently paying.

As I've posted here before, I find the only way to get decent quotes is to phone around lots of specialist brokers who can deal with the complexities of what I need. I have never come across an automated quote engine (or a call centre
) that can come close. I suspect that many PHers are in a similar boat, and a specialist service would be of more use - unless everyone else has rushed out to buy standard Micras ...
