Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone could help me out here.

I got meself some points (3) in July 2000 for going a bit fast on the motorway (ok so i was 2.2 mph off losing my licence!) When i first got em I thought they would stay on for three years but have now realised its four !! Has this changed since I got mine or did I just read it wrong in 2000.

Also why do insurance companies ask if you have any convictions in the last 5 years when after 4 you have a clean licence again. Surely this isn't right!?

Any help on this matter would be greatly received

Thanks

I'm no expert but I think it works like this.

The points are valid (ie for totting up) for 3 years but remain on your licence for 4 years - I think D+D stay on longer.

If you had points over 3 but under 4 years old and went to court for a new indiscretion the old points would be ignored by the magistrates - the court official states that "for the purposes of this offence the licence is clean" or something along those lines.

As for insurance companies, they are just assessing the risk by going back 5 years.

Cheers,
JSG

Let's not visit this topic AGAIN.

There's loads of threads like this one.

Suggest doing a bit of research on previous threads.

Valid for totting purposes for 3 years from date of conviction, not date of offence!

Stay on for 4 years before you can have them removed.

Drink Drive stay on for 10 years!
