£3700 FFS. Fine for the buyer, not so good for the rest of us.

They really are major bargins at the moment there's nothing else to compare to them for the price, sadly not much help if you're looking to sell. If its any consulation cerbie prices also seem to be in freefall

Worrying.
As mush as I adore the wedge, is it time to sell up (before prices drop much more) and put my money into something more stable?

Yup, if this is par for the course I'll just keep mine for a while longer and add another toy to the fleet. Its an unblievable amount of road presence for 3 to 4k.

I think theres already a similar reaction to that going on which isn't helping prices. However I can sympathise with your thinking.

May be its just a blip...?

The only reason I would sell IMHO is to buy a bigger wedge , just add to fleet it wanting alternative fun as well.

The prices of TVR's are only an issue if you're planning on selling, persoally I've no idea what my Wedge or racer are worth, simply cos I've no intention of selling and I hope to keep both of them for a very very long time.

I agree there is only need to worry about prices if you intend to sell,it does seem a pity that the cars now don't seem to hold value especially when you have to sell. When you are selling (like a lot seem to be currently)then having spent loads on a car I do sympathize ,most who buy these cars do not so as an investment and also realise that they are not cheap to own, maintain .I want to keep mine till the government says I am to old or to blind or to dangerous to drive it,even then I will try to employ someone to cart me around in it ,not sure I will be able to get one of those car assist seat conversions fitted but by then they may have come up with something ,hopefully!!!!!

I'm more concerned about them becoming available to an audience who, shall we say, don't appreciate them for what they are.

Be a p155er to find them all chavved-up and/or wrapped round lamp-posts by those without the sense to know when to say when.

Ian, with all due respect Wedges have been around the "affordable for just about anyone to buy" mark for many years now, for similar money to a 02 plate Focus you can buy pretty much anything up to say a fairly decent condition 400.

It's something that Chimaera owners have been complaining/commenting about for a while. Thankfully for Wedge owners, Wedges aren't seen as the most fashionable style of car, which generally keeps cars enthusiast owned. I remember going to a TVRCC Oxford meet in 2002/3ish, Paul/GSX600 might remember this, where a local builder came with his Cerbera that he was looking to sell. A few folks were asking how my restoration was getting on, I mentioned how all the rot had been chopped out of my chassis and this guy quipped, nah my chassis is fine, its made from glassfibre The guy left the meet fairly early on, got in his car and drove off gunning the engine to not far off the limiter without any chance of the engine warming up. An enthusiast he was not.

Yes priced are low at the moment, but that reflects the car market as a whole, not just TVR's or indeed Wedges. Bangernomics are something that will be with us for a long time, my current run about, a e30 318 cost me £300, if come MoT time it needs any major work or the engine goes pop before then, the local scrap yard wil give me £40 for and I'll pay another £300 for a years motoring, it's not the way I like to do things, and hopefully the car wont need any work, but i cannot justify the cost to repair things on such a mundane level. With the new car market being flooded with every cheaper cars, and this country's nervousness about the health of the economy, used car and especially toy/fun car prices are taking a beating worthy of a Rocky film.

The moral of the story is, never buy a car expecting to make money, buy a car to have some fun in and if you do make a bob or two when you sell it on, then all the better.

Regards
Iain

I appreciate all that Iain; I certainly don't view my cars as 'investments' but it's a trifle depressing watching what little value they do have rapidly dwindling - from £5500 in early '05 to £4400 by winter and now £3700 is a horrific slump.
One potential (gloomy!) forecast might be that this plays right into the government's hands, with cars becoming so worthless that they get scrapped (as you say) rather than repaired, making it easier for them to legislate against the remaining few.
Fair enough, a typical 2L now might be more than a match for a Wedge but that doesn't make it right that no Wedges should survive...
I suppose one course of action would be to snap up every Wedge as they become available so that one day you can command the market...

Goodness me , I'm beginning to feel responsible for all the woes of Wedgedom.

I think I'll give this one to charity when I'm done with it

I have been watching this as well, but have come to the conclusion that if its a good one it would still fetch a decent price.

Now that I've started taking it over 50mph, I wear a wooly hat.

...but my lad refuses to be in the car with me wearing it !

Now what's that all about ?

Blinkin younger generation.

Hmm - maybe if I put my baseball cap on back to front...

Its the erosion from hooning in Beacons, combined with head still growing through the hair. Some of us tall buggers have to keep the fly's from stinging on impact.

I wont hang my head in shame 'cos it will blind you all in the sun......

It is a correct conclusion!

Mine was a near minter, full MOT, re-sprayed, inspected etc I got £5300
