I'm having some issues with email forwarding on one of my servers.

I spent around 4 - 5 hours on the phone with The Planet tech support last week regarding this issue and they were not able to solve it.

Here is how it works.

@mydomain.com (catch all) is set to forward to my @hotmail.com address. So anything sent to anything@mydomain.com will forward to my @hotmail.com address or what ever I've set it to forward to in Cpanel.

Now ~

@gmail.com > anything@mydomain.com > @hotmail.com = DOES NOT WORK

So I log into gmail account and send a email to anything@mydomain.com > nothing turns up in my hotmail account?

Although @gmail.com > @hotmail.com = WORKS FINE

As does everything else via forwarding too /

@hotmail.com > anything@mydomain.com > @hotmail.com

@yahoo.com > anything@mydomain.com > @hotmail.com

@epassporte.com > anything@mydomain.com > @hotmail.com

@theplanet.com > anything@mydomain.com > @hotmail.com

etc etc

Everything works but not when I log into gmail and send an email to e.g. ph@mydomain.com.
I never get it in my hotmail inbox?

I currently have this issue with two domains (different ip's) on the same server with different cpanel accounts.

From The Planets side looking into the box in real time they see the mail go through and it says it gets sent ok to the hotmail inbox from gmail email addresses, it hits hotmails mx servers and goes through? they can't see any issues.

Must have tried about 10 or so emails that end in @gmail.com and none of them go through?

I really can't understand this.. Does anyone know what could be the issue? Jamie? I know you know so much more than me and if you have any idea to what may be the cause I wouldn't mind some help?

I've tried changing things in WHM and Cpanel as have The Planet but nothing seems to fix the problem?

Any help appreciated.

Check the junk mail filtering settings on your hotmail box?

Yes I did check that but it should see it as an email coming from anything@mydomain.com which all other emails come through from ok and are not accepted as junk. Even so it should appear in my 'Junk e-mail' folder if that were the case? Hotmail must recognize in the header that it's being forwarded from a gmail email address? I just can't think why @gmail.com emails don't forward through.

tail -f /var/log/maillog on your server with theplanet

Watch the mail come in, then watch to see what happens to it.

If it shows it's accepted for delivery @ hotmail, then it's an issue with hotmail... I know they are trying to launch their hotmail Live beta and are experiencing lots of issues.. it could be flagging it as spam as it's been relayed so much..

But why are you trying to relay thru 2 machines? why not relay directly from gmail to hotmail? Only reason I can think is you're spam scanning on theplantet box.. doesn't make much sense otherwise.

either way, without seeing the mail logs its nigh on impossible to see where the issue lies.

Could be getting anti-spammed if it's just @hotmail that's affected.

I would guess that you are falling foul of spam filtering at the Hotmail servers, presumably the combination of your gmail source and the forwarding has fallen foul of one of their heuristics.

It is showing it's accepted for delivery @ Hotmail, so it's most likely to be a issue with Hotmail and not my server?

I am using Windows Live Mail but this issue has only occurred within the last two weeks unless Microsoft have tweaked settings on there end recently as I had no problems before.

I guess I'll have to have a word with Hotmail tech support regarding this to see if that is the cause and if so if there is a fix. I didn't think it was an issue with Hotmail and thought the problem lied with my server.
