New RangeRover with Xenons

My morning rant- Bloody things, no other car headlights are quite as annoying when they are behind you. Coz the things are so high and bright its like a floodlit football ground behind you.

You beat me to it with this post! I was on the M4 the other night doing somewhere close (ish) to the speed limit and there was one following me. I eventually had to pull over and slow down to 60 to get him to pass me because I couldn't concentrate at all with the dazzle from the damn Xenons!

Question for Madcop et al - do the dipped beams on big vehicles with high mounted lights have to be pointed down at a steeper angle than "normal" cars???

Doubt its the case on the Range Rover, but I would like to apologise in advance to anyone in front of me in traffic. The Nissan Navara does not have (or I can't find) a headlamp adjustment control, so when I have a load on I am always getting flashed. Not my fault I'm afraid!!
Unless of course I'm too thick to find the control.

There was some discussion a few years back that the EU were looking at banning Xenons, as the light emitted was more blue than white... and you can only have white lights on the front of the car... don't ever know what became of it though...

Some of the lights on cars nowadays make you feel you're being followed by a small warehouse rave, changing colour whenever they hit a bump.

Surely there will be a point where the annoyance factor to other motorists overrides the safety benefit to that driver.

Not sure about a steeper angle but the HC states that you MUST NOT DAZZLE OTHER ROAD USERS. In a range rover that would mean not getting within 30 feet (behind) of an ordinary car. The same applies to trucks and vans - especially the p£$*ks who sit behind and to the right (another good reason for not using the left hand lanes).

The brake lights are blinding. Its when they sit at the traffic lights, foot on the brakes and you are about 6 feet away. So bright they hurt.

I think that it was decided as long as they did'nt project blue light onto the road surface it was legal?

and with the brake lights on you can see the bloody indicator behind , what a useless design

My boss has a new Range Rover and the lights are one of his biggest complaints about it. (and the steering wheel and seat memories not working, and the two stereos which went pop, and the blue leather piping running, and the battery going kerput...)

RR's answer is to write some software to dull the lights down by reducing the power to them! Why not just add a leveling switch?

Found myself behind a new Audi A8 last friday, at a junction....thought I would never see again. Seemed to have LED type brake lights.

On a number of occasions with various cars I almost been tempted to get oot and quietly walk up to the driver window and shout f'kinhandbrakenotwork? However, 2 problems:
1. This is not sane.
2. My handbrake is useless on all but gentle inclines. I'll adjust it someday.

I'm interested in this. Assuming the RR uses the same system as the X5 (given the sat nav, seats, rear end etc. are the same I'm assuming it is) the system "auto levels" itself when the lights come on. There is absolutly nothing to change it, and given it seems to get it right when on a slope, I assume it measures the rear suspension settings and then does it's magic.

What stikes me is that it doesn't change it when driving - so I've often wondered if I start the car parked on the drive, do I then blind everyone sensless with my lights.

There is nothing in the manual about it, the dealers just "don't know", and I'm not sure.

Given I drive "low" cars - unadjusted lights really anoy me, but I'm just not sure of what the heck the X5 is doing when it does it's little "light dance" everytime the lights come on.

So - if I blind people I'll apologise in advance - but there isn't a lot I can do about it
