Coming home yesterday, saw an unmarked Mitsubishi Silver Evo coming off the opposite slip road by the Shell garage (nr Brighton on A23) with it's lights going in the front grille, did'nt realise they had these sort of cars now !

There is an Evo that patrols the A23. Found this out from the chap who bought my Audi S4.Obviously there are 2 sides to every story......
Apparently he was making his way down the A23 to home when he spots the Evo quite close in his rear view mirror. He presses on a bit and the Evo sticks with him. Same again and again the Evo sticks pretty close. Eventually the lights come on in excess of the ton/100....

Like I say, what the exact circumstances were I cannot 100% clarify, but whoever is driving behind me, I do not like them driving particularly close behind.......

Probably following the highway codes advice is the best policy if you feel someone is too close.

This is yet another instance of tailgating, with the de luxe option of BiB waiting until a big speed is reached before lighting up. Why tailgate? Why wait until three figures? If speeding is dangerous, yes we all know it's mostly not but it is illegal, why not stop the guy between 85 and 90 when he won't get a ban? Why play these games with someone's licence? Genuine question. Why does this smell like provocation and incitement and entrapment etc especially when taken to three figures? Nothing personal PH just asking

It smells like it because it is. Pure and simple, the reality is they are human (honest!!) and they want a coller the bigger the better, safety really does not come into it. You get some decent guys out there who might provoke you a bit then give you a pull an a wee chat. You heed the warning and get on your way.

But as has been said follow the Hightway code if someone is too close and dont give them the satifsfaction.

Safety is a by product of todays Policing and its approch, there are other issues that take precedence, some are written down by the "high heed yins" some ore purely a function of the individual officer.

Wonder what would happen if you got his reg, pulled off and dialled 999???
One or two of these might get "lost", any more and questions should be asked.

There is a dark green Skoda Ocativa VRS that patrols around the A34 in Stoke that also attempts to bait cars.

It has attempted to bait me in the Type R a far few times. The first time as I entered the 70 section in Newcastle it was sitting so close to the back of my car I could only see half of his bonnet, I floored it and left him but I just felt something just wasn't right about the car so when I hit 75 I pulled across into the inside lane and when he caught up with me he stayed level with the two officers looking across at me and then the shot off.

It then did the same the following week only we were kept getting slowed down so I slowed and accelerated a few times and each time when I stopped accelerating he would come and sit on my bumper. I did consider a break test but thought better of that!

I have to admit that when i was younger (16 years ago!!) i gave a police car a brake test in the wet.... I was in a morris marina van cant remeber what the police car was.

Anyway how my pal an me laughted as the police car slewed sideways first to the left then to the right as the sooo well trained driver/officer fighted with the pendulum that was his car.

I have to admit being cocky know it all teenage driver i suggested to the police officers (after they pulled me over ) that they perhaps sould not drive so close to the car in front.

Suffice to say that they gave me a bull shit bollocking and went on their merry way.

You can argue the toss about brake tests (i personally hold my hands up and say the i should not have done it and don not condone it) but the bottom line was they were less than 1/2 a car length off my back bumper at 40mph and the only reason that they did not hit the back of me was that i touched the brakes and did not keep them on hard..

The police should know better and any officer that participates in this type of behavour should be removed from driving a police car and given a set of roller blades.

Best to have a small camera facing the rear, it would be fun listening to them explane to a judge why they just had to be so close.

Haven't read all the posts here, but that's def an unmarked; seen it in action twice. First time was on the A24 by Ashington when he pulled a bike over behind me. I recently saw it again on the A23 just north of Bolney on the dips before Hand Cross Hill having stopped a Porshe.

It does indeed bait. On the occasion I saw it pull the bike over it had been following the group I was in. Didn't really like the way it was moving, you know how it is, and my suspicions were confirmed when the unsuspecting biker went tearing past him. One of my golden rules: If someone wants to go faster than you, let them. It has benefits.

They didn't happen to also do the same in a Sapphire Cosworth did they? A mate got baited a couple of years ago in the same area, he lost his licence for 12 months, even though the Cossie was being driven quite dangerously in order to push him into it (my mate got sick of the weaving Cossie and thought he'd teach them a lesson...).

I quite often drive with my video camera on (front or rear facing), and would love for a copper to try that on me.
