Are the petrol tanks single or double skined, mines 1998. Reason for asking is that the CD Changer is bolted to the top of the Petrol tank, if I remove it will I have to plug the holes as petrol may or may not come out.

Its single skinned,I can't believe anyone would bolt straight through a tank!!
Peel back the felt and have a look to see if a plywood packer isn't glued to the top of it ,thats what I did to my first Griff for the CD changer fixing's.

99% sure it's single skinned.

I think you can be fairly confident that it isn't bolted to the tank - it is probably bolted to the body over the tank.

There's no bodywork over the top of my tank (1999). It has about an inch of foam rubber glued to the top of the tank, the carpet covering the face of the tank folds over the top of this. Then there's a piece of removable carpet trim that covers the gap between there and the boot lid rim.

Is that how it left the factory?

Yep! Perhaps one (or both!) of us is missing something here: yes, there is bodywork above the tank, but it's the boot rim, flush between the rear of the hood and the bootlid.

Directly above the foam rubber padding and carpet on top of the tank, there's a horizontal step in of an inch or so, then a removable panel in a vertical(ish) plane, parallel with the rear face of the tank. When the panel is removed the airvents in the rear bulkhead are visible. It's definitely a factory finish - in fact I only found out by accident that it is removable.

Out of interest, what did you think it should look like?
