well that was dissapointing (spelling ?)

It's a s reg 96 4.0ltr 37k miles in dark blue with biege leather £12995 been on the garage forcort for 11 months

full history service every 6 months or so but its a bit of a mess dash had bits of the wood trim stuff broken off drivers footwell was 2 inches deep in water covering the carpet and it was a bit ripped , drivers seat all cracked green moss kinda stuff starting to form on the roof, petrol cap missing , i'm sure there was other things but i forgot now .

And the sales bloke didnt know if it had p.a.s. or if it was a hc he didnt even know what hc ment and showed no intrest in talking about the car at all

what a disaster

When I was looking at mine, I travelled 300 miles to a (main) dealer to look at a car. They knew I was coming, had an appointment to see a "minter"… turned out to be a "munter".

Uneven tyre wear, torn rear screen, paint touched up that looked like a scar, scuffed wheels, a large pool of fluid underneath, one flat tyre, a dead battery and an inch of dust inside... all for the bargain price of £16,995!

Nightmare mate - can't believe a dealer was that ignorant ?
PAS should be easily spotted, though HC harder to ascertain.
Condition sounds very poor (previous owner or the garage I wonder).
And in any case I make S to be September 1998–February 1999.

That car (and garage) sound best avoided

If its been there that long i would have thought all the electrcal switches would be corroded through lack of use, i would leave well alone there are plenty more out there.

13k for a 96 is top end money anyway so it should have been mint. You'd have thought if they'd had it for 11 months they'd have just wanted shot and dropped the price accordingly.
Personally I'd start with some of the decent indies such as Agger or Fernies to find a good one or trawl through the classifieds and get an inspection done by a local indie.
The first sign of dis-interest or numptiness in any seller of a car such as this should start alarm bells ringing IMHO, from the sounds of it this one would cost thousands to get back into top condition.
Just out of interest are you able to PM me a link to the dealer in question - just so as I know where to tell people to avoid. Especially as I have a couple of friends starting to get interested in purchasing as well.

Yep when i was hunting for mine i went all over to find a good one, the worst one was found in a 'specialist car' dealers in Luton (13k for a 95') took us bloody ages to get there after seeing one in Northampton, and the car was a total shitter despite being advertised as a minter with just 16,000 miles! Starmist green with dark green interior, the dash was totally cracked, carpet was mouldy, the roof flaps were torn there were scuffs on the wings and the electrical instrument lamp covers were missing, not to mention the bald tyres - an utter dog 160,000 miles more like.

Dont worry about it - you will find a good un. I ended up getting mine from Adrian Blyth and i havent looked back.

Looks and sounds OK...but who knows....

They have another TVR in their stock and its a wedge which your average run of the mill place probably wouldn't bother with....... :idle muse:

Good luck!

What's happened with Adrian and TVR's then.??

I bought my first Chim from him 6 years ago - and all he seems to be selling now is Lotus.!!

Hi Asty. Sorry to hear you have had some wasted time. If you have to trade then I think there is a lot to be said for going to one of the long established dealers (most advertise on PH or the TVR club site). As some others have said, its worth a longish trip to a good dealer with plenty of stock.

Hi Asty, I recently had some work done by Scole Engineering. I saw the car there, it looked ok and they were doing some work on it (nothing major). They are genuine people to deal with and have a good reputation in the area. They were recommended to me by the TVRCC R.O. I am going to have my Chim serviced there from now on and I have to drive right by the "specialist" in the area, that must tell you something. As regards that particular car, it's your call. Good Luck.
