Knackered DVD Rom drive on my laptop - help please!
Discussion
Afternoon All.
Trying to recommission my old laptop today - the DVD Rom drive is giving me the windows error code 39.
I think I have found a driver - installed it, and rebooted. No joy. Still not working!
It's a Toshiba Portege 4000 laptop with a SD-C2502 DVD / CD Rom drive.
All help gratefully received, for a techno-numpty!!!
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Code 39
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Recommended resolution
Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file that is corrupted; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry point in another binary file that could not be loaded.
Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver.
On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.
Sounds similar to what you've done but try taking a look on the Microsoft Knowledgebase, there's a few entries for Error 39 which might help you.
