Battery suddenly died on 996TT

Having owned the car for a couple of months the battery has decided to give up. Took the car out on Saturday, got home, went to start the car 2 hours later and just got a clicking. Managed to jump start the car and took it for a drive for a few miles and then put it away ion the garage. No lights or doors left on and the next morning the battery is dead again. Any ideas?

I have now put it on charge to see if it holds the charge. Battery levels are fine and despite what the manual says the alarm does still operate with the battery disconnected!! Had to take the siren off the car and let its battery run down, noisy bl**dy thing!!

Porsche batteries are toss,took mine back today after two months,they exchanged it for a new one.See how long this one lasts.....

Yep, mine when 2 weeks ago very suddenly - almost 6 years old so not too bad. OPC wanted £125 +vat just for a new battery. I got one for £40 that's a known good make and fitted it myself.

If you leave the key in the ignition then disconnect the battery, the backup alarm will not go off!

I replaced mine with a BOSCH Silver Plus battery over 2 years ago and this winter it gave up the ghost. The electronics in the 996 really draw current. Cold Cranking Amps are very important. I have now over specked my 996TT with again a BOSCH Silver plus but this time one designed for a diesel van and it works a treat.

A bit off-topic, but there is a wonderful chargind device sold by Porsche over here which goes by the name of "Charge-o-Mat" (produced by swedish company "CTEK Sweden AB".

This charger is VERY good indeed if You do not use Your car everyday and have to take care about batteries going down the drain during those times.

It is "intelligent", meaning it changes the charging power according to the battery's status, switching it to pulse-charging or even a complete standby (zero current) during the charging-cycle.

I can wholeheartedly recommend that thing !

It costs around EUR 90 over here in germany. Go to Your OPC to find out more about it.

Yep, I bought a CTEK 3600. It works fine. Also had problems with my battery earlier in the year. Got a Varta with a 3 year warranty, so expect to return to the shop in a year or two for another one..

Yip! to be honest any battery tender will do the business, and is a definate like others have said (especially if car sits for days at a time)
I have the OPTIMA RED TOP, another huge weight saving over original, roughly 11lbs if I remember correctly, plus it's a far better battery!
