I could do with a bit of advice here.

I'm pretty keen to fit some crash bobbins to the 749 to try and protect the fairing in the event of a lowslide (Chilli - you might want to invest in some too sorry!).

I've heard reports that bad/cheap bobbins can actually make the damage worse as they can warp the frame of the bike....any know if this is true?

Can you recommend any particularly good ones and are they pretty straight forward to fit or will I need lugs welded on etc...

TIA

Edited to add: anyone fitted these before www.rg-racing.com//showproducts/Crash_Protectors/Ducati_Crash_Protectors/749_999_Crash_Protectors.aspx ?

C2 - are you saying you're a bit wobbly?

Maybe a trike's the way forward for you? I've seen some that would suit you in a previous topic on here

R & G seem to be highly rated - I've had them on a couple of bikes and been lucky that I've not had to cut the faring - which I've always tried to avoid.

There are so many potential crash situations and impact points that I think it's hard to categorically state that one type is going to cause damage rather than minimise it - on the whole I think you're more likely to prevent damage. Good investment

Would advise the fork ones too

I understand that Cyclecat www.cyclecat.com/S1-1.htm make good crash bobbins for Ducatis. The problem with bobbins on Ducatis is that the engine mounting bolts through the frame are thin so they break easily and the frame is easily bent if you bolt/weld to it but the Cyclecat system replaces engine mounting bolts with a stronger one which they claim reduces the chance of frame damage. They have 2 versions; one which sticks out of the fairing (need to cut fairings) and one which sits inside the fairing and so is invisible from the outside and although this means the fairings still scrape the road it protects the frame underneath.

I think Spareshack www.spareshack.com sell the Cyclecat products over here.

Thanks Catso I shall take a look. My primary reason for buying these is just to prevent fairing damage from lowsides on a track so I'm keen to get one's that protrude through the fairing and protect it, rather than the frame.

Another vote for R&G, although given your Ducati frame comments, it might be worth checking a Ducati Owners board for advice.

The pic on my profile is my old 748 yeah. There was one of my 749 in the My Cars tab but it seems to have vanished - I'll have to play around and fix it when I can be arsed.

I have R&G on my Aprilia. As I returned from Le Mans a couple of years back, one of them just fell off! All that was left was a snapped bolt. Maybe I overtightened it?

R&G sent a replacement through, no problems.

They are well regarded so I'd say go with them. Just check the frame issue first.

my step dad had some crash bobbins on his mille r, after washing it, took it off the paddock stand and dropped it, the bobbin just smashed and did absolutely nothing! there was a lot of swearing that night! broke the bars as well as scratches to the fairing and belly pan. cant remember what make the bobbins were though.
