Hello all

I had Tower View install the Two Stage fan system in my 4.0L Chim and I thought Id share with you how Ive got on.

I have had the car back for about a week and in all conditions the temp has not strayed over 80 degrees at any stage, prior to the new system in traffic the temperature regularly crept upto 90 and often the revs would start bouncing or the engine would get so hot that it would just cut out . Today after a one and a half hour nose to tail session from home through London to the office the temp never strayed over 80 no overheating no bouncing revs.

Overall Verdict:
Absolutely brilliant and why havent you got one yet?

thanks for that- always nice to read about peoples experiences. I am also deliberating installing the Mod Wise kit or the Leven cool running kit.

Car lives in Central London so temp guage regularly sitting at 90-95 even in recent cold weather. Got a fan override which I regularly use (if i remember!). I am not too sure why I would like the engine to run cooler but seeing reports that I should immediately stop the car at 100 degrees gives me that uncomfy feeling that steam will come out of the engine at any time while the car is at 95 degrees...

I probably will get one of the kits soon, and I have read good press on both. There are some people who think that a Chims optimal operating temp is 90 degrees plus...while I have no comments on that, I am not too sure why running at too cool a temp will necessarily mean you will need an engine in a few years time. To be honest, I `d rather run my car that bit cooler generally (ie 80 degrees) rather than clench my buttocks while praying that the engine doesn`t overheat and dump its coolent in the middle of Trafalgar Square...

Anyway, can you tell us how much it cost you to get the kit and arrange to have it fitted?
Cheers!

I've had the Mod-wise kit for some while now, it works just fine and take about 15 minutes to fit. See the website.

There is about 4 pages on what happens when the car gets cooler or hotter and what effect it will have on fuel economy, the engine and so on in the new bible. 90 degrees is normal and I would expect the fans to be on. 100 means that something is wrong like a head gasket (possibly). Ignore this and you risk scrapping the heads through warping. £2000 each to replace. I think that is good enough reason to err on the cautious side.

I had a head gasket go and I noticed that the temp was about 5 degrees higher and that made me suspicious. I caught it in time and no engine damage. It did give a photo opportunity for the bible though and there are piccies of what can go wrong and dead head gaskets.

If the car stays at 90-95 in heavy traffic in London then it is fine. If it doesn't then start looking at why because this usually means that something is not right. If you want to lower the temp, then get the fans to switch on earlier or fit a stat that opens at a lower temp. A lot of cars are fitted with the Rover one which is wrong.

Oh and the guages can often be inaccurate as well.

Hello all

off the top of my head it cost £100.00 or so for the kit and about £50.00 to fit.

If you are a regular London crawler like me it saves alot of worry in traffic.
