C6 ZO6 at Canary Wharf EXPO
Discussion
Had a wander through the Canary Wharf EXPO today (it's on all this week) and before I fell into a coma as I walked past all the boring Audis and the like I caught the unmistakeable shape of a C6 'Vette.
The fact that it was bright yellow probably helped it get a bit of attention though I have to say next to the other cars there (Aforementioned Audis, BMWs, Maseratis, etc...) it looked in a different league.
Even the latest Porsche Turbo didn't have anything like the presence of the Z06. I have a confession here and it shames me to say this: lately I have been thinking what car I can get when I build up a decent car fund again and I was even starting to like the look of a P*rsche B*xster.
Let's just say that seeing the ZO6 put things back in perspective. Nice to see C6 prices are falling already...
B*xster indeed, someone get me a slice of humble pie (and some cyanide pills)
P.S. If anyone's wondering the price of the Z06 was 63 grand. Spec sheet showing 7.0 litres and 510 BHP was amusing!

I do like the Z06....but a boxter....hairdresser
After enough time without a 'Vette the German hairdryer junior wannabee Porsche looked appealing on a summer day....
Thank god for today's 'Vette therapy: it's put me on the right track again, just what I needed.
P.S. "summer day" that's amusing. When I get another Corvette and Brett's about it will rain all the time again!
911 Turbo is listed at the show at 100 grand, 193mph top speed, and 0-60 in 3.9s (3.7 Tiptronic) so as near as dammit the same performance, for 40 grand more.
40 grand would buy you a Sledgehammer beating Callaway conversion for the Z06.
hmmm...next years bonus....ship car to USA....260mph top speed...hmmm

Don't forget Porsche quotes conservative numbers and they're 0-62. I've heard of a 997TT testing at 3.4 secs, same as the Z.
I spent 5 minutes today on the Porsche stand extolling the virtues of the Z to the sales guy!
Porsche have made a mistake putting Emanuela on the stand - she puts the cars in the shade.

Plus on looks alone the 'Vette slaughters all others. It was very enlightening to see it in contaxt next to the other supercars such as the Porsche Turbo.
No doubt the Porsche is a superb car but there's something in my blood that makes the 'Vette "do it for me"
I think the 997TT looks nicer than previous 911s but I'm still not a fan.
Maybe I'm biased, but you're right - the Z is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much tastier! Really stands out at the show.

I have to admit liking later 911s (993, 996, 997, you can keep the old "frogs"!) but they are a victim of their own success: if you park in any of the underground car parks at the wharf (Cabot Square, Jubilee Place) you'll see loads of 911s, Boxsters, Range Rovers, etc.
Perhaps we should be grateful the 'Vette is not so universally revered - if we saw 'vettes everywhere I'm sure they'd lose their appeal...

Too true.
My Tuscan is currently parked in a row of a dozen cars, of which the majority (!) are 911s.
They're more ubiquitous than the Beetle and excite me to about the same degree (if that).

True, but Z06 owners in the USA that I have spoken to have recorded some amazing times at the dragstrip that'd put that number in perspective also. How about 11.3s @ 130? That would make a 0-60 time of around 3.3 to 3.4. McLaren F1 did 3.2 to 60, and 11.1 in the quarter.
Now I just have to match them!

I think the new GT3 looks fantastic, the front aero work really differentiates it.
New GT3 is an awesome car for a race circuit, but the Z06 would kill one on the street.
GT3s are simply 100bhp light.
At the end of the day though, if you want to be quick on a race circuit, get a Caterham or a Radical, even GT3s are slow compared to proper cars like those.

"3.4 secs, same as the Z"
"That would make a 0-60 time of around 3.3 to 3.4"
Where's the need for the "but"?
The 3.4 sec 0-60 magazine test was in Motor Trend BTW. Very surface and weather dependent - another mag was a full sec slower!
I realise this is the 'Vette forum but honestly, how can you even begin to compare any corvette to a Porsche? Don't get me wrong,I love the Corvette but it is only so intoxicating by way of the V8 motor and until recently (C5 onwards) had little or no handling prowess to speak of.The Porsche is definitely a more rounded package and so does not need to be over endowed with BHP.

All a matter of personal taste.
Now if you look at my profile 'Dream' list, you'll naturally see the ZO6, but also the 996TT
and a DB9, so no blinkered views from me.
That said, although the prices would put the cars:
1) DB9
2) 911 996TT
3) ZO6
My order of priority would be:
1) ZO6
2) 911 996TT
3) DB9
Why? I honestly love the styling of the ZO6 ( a sticking point for some ) over the other two.
The brute force / V8 roar everything 'appears' bang on the money for me.
Now I've yet to drive the ZO6, but when I do I will step from a 911 to do the test, but after
studying videos ( a lot of videos! ) and also applying reviewer's comments to my own potential
use, I am pretty damn sure already the ZO6 would tick all the boxes for me.
For others? Maybe not - but it does counter your comment.
Moving back to the show, anyone taken any photos they care to post or send me?
Cheers.
