engine number?

Can somebody tell me where to find the engine number on a 2L Pinto.

drivers side of the engine, about 3" under the manifold towards the front of the engine, will be a flat surface, parallel to the ground, about 21/2" - 3" long. |If it's anything like mine, it will be covered in oil/dirt, but underneath will be the engine number. I had to use copious amounts of cleanser and small brush to find the letters and number but it is there!
The engine number should read two letters/five numbers. The two letters denote month and year of your engine.
Whilst you're at it and found the number, check it off against the V5C.
