still after tuscan project
Discussion
i am still after a tuscan road car project to keep me busy when the kids have gone to bed
as soon as i get back from le mans i may sell my current car and try to find a suitable project
any one know of one anywhere either a half finished project, a load of bits to make a full car or a redundant racer
many thanks

Phil (above) & myself have been emailing off thread and it turns out we both were nearly victims of the same scammer so I thought I'd post the warning here.
Before I bought my pride & joy from Uncle Rod, I spent 3 months arranging the purchase of a "90% complete Tuscan project". It was advertised on FastRoadandTrack at the end of 2003 beginning of 2004. The guy selling it was called Rupert and lives somewhere in Somerset but worked at a fabrication unit just outside Honiton.
Both Phil & I both made the same mistake of hiring vans and going down to collect the kit which in my case was a 7 hour drive each way with a B&B overnight stay
It turned out to be a very very poor DIY chassis - tubes ground through on the bottom to make it sit flat, welding was worse than a beginner. There was a pink Henley TVR nose section badly damaged, presumably salvage. There wasn't much else.... a radiator and diff (possibly MGB not TVR) and that was it. His scam is that he tries to get you to send him a small deposit eg £150 - I didn't thankfully. He also makes himself unavailable on the day you arrive but tells you to help yourself and settle up later. I suppose he's hoping one day someone won't know any better. I also suspect this is just in case the transit van happens to be full of disgruntled victims that have ganged together to sort him out
I reported the guy to FastRoadandTrack at the time and they removed the ad but I'm staggered to find out from Phil that he's still trying. Hopefully anyone thinking of doing the same, will look here first and spot this warning.

Would that be Rupert Cummings?
This all sounds familiar to me. I bought the chassis after seeing it on e-bay around Dec 2005. I sent a cheque for the chassis £200 was what he wanted for a replica chassis. (in fairness he didn't try to sell it as original)
The guy messed me around for 2 months promising delivery, then the carrier went bust, then he was going to meet me at charnock richard services whilst picking another car up, then his pickup broke down because it was running on vegetable oil.
You get the idea.
I eventually threatened him with the police and managed to get my £200 back
I can publish his full details if required as long as we are talking about the same person of course.
he was Rupert cummings, Chard, Somerset when I dealt with him.
He also has an e-mail addy which purports to be a classic car dealer?
is this the guy??
Seems I am lucky to have not went to collect the chassis.
Whereabouts in Northumberland are you Richard?
Neil.

Thats the guy ! I had exactly the same experience. Messed me about for 3 months. Offers of delivery or meeting me at a service station half way - loads of excuses for postponing it including the sudden death of his best friend. The guy is a classic con man - very nice to talk to but really just out to rip you off. Perhaps you could publish his eBay ID so we know what to look out for although I suspect he has many ID's.
He does also like his old cars hence the MG diff and radiator that was part of the Tuscan kit I was going for.
I'm in Morpeth - are you in the north east too ?
V8Archie,
My progress is very slow so don't expect No27 to make a quick return. The development is limited by my budget time and mechancial skills and also a desire not to cut corners. I've told myself it'll be finsished when its fisished. At first I wasnted to turn it into a road car and convinced myself I wouldn't race it, then I thought I'd try some sprints but watching you guys on Race & Rally UK I quite fancy joining you now, so who knows.
Cheers

if you need to set your car up then I would recommend speaking to john reid. who probabbly knows more than anyone about this car.
He is making a set of Wishbones for me at the moment and has just set up shop at Bispham Industrial estate, Just around the corner from the factory.
