Brake Bedding In - the 30/60/100mph method
Discussion
I'm getting new discs and pads for the car soon. A friend has just done the same. They were fitted by a peformance car garage and the bedding in proceedure was:
- after fitting go for a drive
- hard stop from 30mph
- let the brakes settle in temp.
- hard stop from 60mph
- let the brakes settle in temp.
- hard stop from 100mph
- let the brakes settle in temp.
- job done
Any thoughts? I've always heard you need to be gentle-ish on your brakes for a couple of hundred after a change of discs and/or pads to let them bed in. But then, race cars dont exactly bed theirs in gradually and they dont tend to warp them either.

The instructions vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some say do a number of stops, some say until the pads start to fade, you need to follow the correct procedure for your actual pads. Something they usually have in common is that you should never come to a complete standstill during this procedure.
