are scamera vans legally allowed to park in bus stops? If so, on what premise?
Thanks

Except when the bus company introduces new longer busses, which can't fit in the bus stop with the Scamera van.

So then they introduce a camera bike instead

Nothing must get in the way of earning revenue!

Can the bus company give that permission legally? Surely the TRO will say what permitted use there is of the bus stop.

Ive never seen a camera bike in Reading - the scamera van is alive and well on the wokingham road and moves about occasionally, sometimes between the 2 bp garages, sometimes outside palmer park.

The bastard used to be in that bus lane outside the college on the kings road quite a lot. I'l have to keep an eye out for the bike though..

That's where the bike sits - protecting the college idiots who can't fathom how to cross a 4 lane road without using the assigned crossings

I notice they've put speed measurement devices (the black pipes) across this week. Wonder what they'll make of my speed at 5am yesterday

Aye, the girls I've seen from that 'college' look like the only successful career they will get into is one lying on their back..

you should climb aboard and ask for a ticket into the town. Then follow up with a 'dead parrot' style conversation regarding why, if this is not a bus, is it sitting in a bus lane.

My licence is now clean, but the last three points I got were from a mobile scamera that had been set up actually inside a substantial brickbuilt and tiled roof bus stop, the scamera was inside pointing out through a side window. The worst of it was that oncoming traffic was flashing a warning at us, so everyone in my lane made sure they stuck to 40mph or just below, but it turned out it was a 30mph limit which was news to me. Had to go back and check, I was very surprised when I found out that the little bit of road was indeed a 30 limit. The usual traffic speed is about 45mph here, if you just go with the flow.

It was something like this with the van hidden behind it out of sight.

I always thought those two black strips were for measuring the amount of traffic using the road?

As for putting a scamera van at the bus stop, maybe they are trying to see if the buses are on time?

Like it!

Bit like the conversation I had with a cold caller at the door the other day, block paving contractor touting for work. Spotted his van, which the day before had cut me up by undertaking in a bus lane and barging in front into a gap that wasn't really there.

"Yes I was thinking of asking you for a quote but seeing as you drive a bus during the day I thought you would be too busy"

When he finally dawned what I was on about and that my next message would involve the word "off" due to his lousy driving he looked a bit sick. Muppet!

Where possible I always slow done to the limit for these, as these ultimately determine what speed prevention measures are put in place. If everyone is below the limit no need for cameras!

Those devices measure speed, record the numbers, and if there are three rubber pipes, also the direction of the traffic. So they record how many broke the speed limit and which direction they were travelling when they did it.

Maybe it is just me, but I thought that "accidents" were required to put a camera down, so merely having 50% of motorists breaking the speed limit is an irrelevent consideration?

Don't tell me, the law says cameras can go anywhere that tax can be collected?

What do you think

Speed traps can be laid in sites where there is a worry or a history of speeding. Here are the Thames Valley reasons:

Installation Reasons (provided by the local authority partners for fixed camera sites)

1 High KSI per km

2 High PIC per km

3 Borderline KSI or PIC per km

4 Evidence of speed problem from speed survey

5 Evidence that local residents are concerned about speed for example complaints, surveys, petitions

6 High casualties spread across a length of route rather than a specific location

7 Proximity to vulnerable road users including children, horse riders, elderly

DfT Site Class

Under the scheme by which safety camera partnerships operate, the Department for Transport are required to approve locations / sites for use. Depending on when the locations were commissioned, criteria may have been set regarding the number of collisions / speeds of vehicles at the site. There are two types of site, ’Core’ and ’Exception’. Core sites have, at some time, been approved for use by the DfT. A small number of Exception sites are used by TVSRP where specific installation criteria are not met, or where approval is pending. The amount of time spent enforcing these sites is strictly controlled by the DfT.

I can assure you that in our local town we have just had the pipes down. These measured numbers and speeds as advised above.

We now have signs up saying "camera coming soon." grrrrrrr!

The only speeding problems on that stretch of road are:-

a) Inappropriate speed at school start and finish time. An appropriate speed at these times is actually below the limit, so a camera only deals with part of the problem if at all.
b) early hours street racing away from the lights by the Lax Power Merchants. No comment, but there are other ways to skin a rabbit.

The ksi on the road in question are not speed related.

You'll get correspondance back from them pointing you towards the local bus company
