No doubt this has been mentioned before, but it's getting all to common to see a police car stuck in a traffic jam, turn on it's lights and siren, speed off down the wrong side of the road, only to pull back in 100m down the road. I mean if you're going abuse your lights etc. at least do it all the way to the nearest cafe, mobile speed trap or wherever they're going.

And couple of times while I've been parked on the M25 in the morning I've seen police cars push it's way from the 3rd lane to the hard shoulder, drive down the hard shoulder until the next junction, then push back in.

Would making a note of the registartion number and time of day and reporting make any difference, I don't really want to stand up in court to prove it, but wouldn't mind someone having a word in their ears either.

Again, it the few ruining it for the majority...

Personally, I'd leave the blokes in police cars alone, many of them are ok and do a good job. It's the low-life sub-human types that sit in white vans with their laser guns that should be marked for attention.

Personally I would much rather NOT see police cars sitting in traffic jams. A much bigger waste of tax payers money AND obviously they should be somewhere more helpfull in the first place.

And what makes you think they haven't seen something that needs a closer look (someone actin a complete numpty) so are actually exercising their correct rights as a copper? Just 'cos you haven't seen it.

Scenario, Sat in traffic Jam, given job over radio, colud be RTC, Thieves on, Personal attack alarm etc, Blue's on get out of jam to go to job, 200 m down rd another patrol shouts up that they are at the job, so not wishing to upset/inconvenience/endanger any more road users its lights off and either cancel or got there at normal speed. We have to justify enough of what we do without having to write even more reports out to justify petty complaints.

Thirded

Why should they have to sit there just because everyone else does? If I had pretty blue lights I sure as hell wouldnt sit in a jam.

There is a wonderful piece of Military technology - known as an ARM - Anti Radar Misile - all we need is some of these and presto no more speed guns/cameras etc.

No doubt other devices exist for destroying lazer sites etc as well.

Just have to watch the next gulf war to find out what we will be able to buy in a couple of years time in the baltics and russia.

Fair point. One less annoyance on my list now.

Sometimes at say 5pm we might get a call to a personal attack alarm - the blues go on and 30 seconds later another patrol might be there and radio that we are not needed as it was activated in error. Rather than just turn the blues off and feed back into traffic we often turn down a back street or off the main road so we don’t look like complete numpties.
