Wing Mirror - Life of its own!!
Discussion
Does anybody know if there is an easy way to stop disconnect the motors/power to the wind mirrors. The fuse is not an option as that disables the speedo too.
The control panel keeps getting wet when left in the rain and as a result, the motors start up at random intervals and move the mirrors all over the place.
Thank you.

I’ve had the same problem in the past, try this… with the ignition off, gently push one corner of the mirror right into the housing, the opposing corner of the mirror will appear out of the housing showing the edge of the mirror, get your fingers around the edge and gently pull the mirror off the circular clip holding the mirror to the motor, don’t worry, it’s stiff but it will pop off, unclip the pos and neg for the heated element so you can put the mirror to one side, undo the four screws holding the motor in the housing, pull the motor out as far as it will (possible not very far as the cables are short… ) unclip the motor cables from the back of the motor and reassemble, the mirror will clip back in place by aligning it in the centre of the housing and pushing evenly and firmly until the four sides of the circular clip are in. I did this once in a couple of minutes at motorway filling station, so it’s not hard.
You can than manual adjust the mirror to suit by pushing it around (anyway how often do you adjust the mirrors… especially if the car is only driven by one person!), this quick fix will stop the motor from firing at random and keep the mirror in one place! To fix the problem, all it took was to clean the contacts on the door mounted controller, as you say, water and therefore corrosion…

No, I had to edit the number of spaces between the emoticons so they weren’t cramped, about five spaces seem right and typing the international recognised :-) doesn’t get a smiley... so I edited that, but please be assured I'll do my best to get it in one in future, or perhaps I should just not bother to help someone, so I don't picked up on with a minor detail...

No I’m not, I was the last generation where dyslexia was a bad word, and after years of having to attend special classes as a kid I pretty good now, well much better than I was!, but as you see I still have a problem with word endings, I just don’t “see” them.
Just to explain as well, I’ve had a p*ss bad week so far and four hours sleep last night, so I’m sorry if I have lost my sense of humour tonight.

So who’s editing now…!!!, sorry, couldn’t resist…!!!, apology accepted.
Yes, I find the Trek R easier to grip and control with it’s finger, er…, bolsters, and the flat bottom helps to get in and out with and I think the chrome and brushed metal looks good with the Mk1 interior, in fact I think it fits better with the interior that the standard wheel, which IMHO looks like it’s from Halford circa 1988… also the quality is much better, both stitching and leather. You might want to check out the (if I recall correctly) the commander wheel, it’s like the trek but without the flat bottom.
Oh yes, word of warning, apparently the boss needs drilling… so I got Power to fit it.

IMHO if the factory is going to source more parts off the shelf in future, they would do no wrong getting Momo to do the wheels, I’m sure if they bought a few hundred plus a year, they should be able to get them for less that half the £160 retail price, the colour might be a problem, the Trek R only comes in black, but the std Trek comes in a few colours, perhaps if the volume was high enough Momo might make them the Trek R in a few colours as well.
