New 996 Turbo X50 but I need a proper @*$^@* exhaust

I’ve recently acquired a 996 Turbo with the X50 engine option and although I’m pleased enough with the car (cup holders and all) the soundtrack does of course leave something to be desired. Very Ford Focus.
I’ve spent some amount of time looking through the archives and I have to confess to being ever so slightly confused on the best route to pursue for a proper Porsche sound. My old 993 had Super Cups on it which I loved so something which will wake the dead is my preference.
I spoken with UK agents for Tubi and Fabspeed, the full systems come out cost wise the same however Fabspeed do a more simple system of 100 cell cats with straight pipes which is half the cost and seems to offer all the thuggery of my old Super Cups.
Of course I’ve looked at websites Cargrahpic, Gemballa driven a car with a Miltec (sp) system and a few others besides but what I really need to know is where would you put your money?
I’m not planning on changing the ECU yet but none the less that needs to be bourn in mind as well.
Cheers folks, I’d hate to blow another couple of grand on the wrong thing.

I went for Tubi. Suits me , not "boomy" and just enough decibles to be amusing ( Harry Hill) and not vulgar ( Johnny Vegas) . Also fitted an air filter ( would that be Cup?)which , when the hammer is down sounds similar to a million king Cobras hissing together added with a touch of rattlesnake..

You say you are not looking at spending money on an ECU, but why? For a couple of grand which you are looking to spend on just an exhaust you could have a Revo upgrade to 520bhp and that takes it to rocketship status. It also makes the exhaust sound more masculine.

Got to go for the straight pipes 
After all, the turbos themselves muffle some of the noise, so it's bound to be quieter than the legendary Supercups regardless of what you do.
The other option is to beef up the turbo noise, but there's a fine line between Noble-style whooshing and chavved up RS Turbos with big atmo dump valves. Not quite in keeping with Porsches methinks...

I can't compare them with other people as I have only driven a Revo and it was stonkingly quick. I'm sure there are alternatives, but as I understand it, one of the advantages of the Revo, is that it is switchable, so you can turn in in to a beast at a flick of a button. So if someone else for example is driving it , or if it is wet you may want to kepp it at the paltry 450 hp. Go and see them and they give you a free 5 hour trial.

do a lot of VW/Audi, think I'd want to take my Porsche to a Porsche specialist
Well weltmeister uses Revo and they are supposed to be a specialist , as do Paragon who have been known to race Porsches!

Cyber, it’s all your fault this you know, if you hadn’t sold me those Super cups none of this would have happened. Naturally the turbos’s will take away some of the pure Wagnerian thrash of the old 993 but none the less on Fabspeeds main site the 100 cell cat and straight pipes do sound the part.
Mikial, I see your in Suffolk “Where about are you a livin boy?” I seen a 996 Turbo making a strictly non standard sound in BSE, wondered if that might be yours?
Scary, I think the thing for now is she’s fast enough, but just doesn’t sound like it and to me having a car sound the part is all part of the fun. If I get a good system now which can then form part of an upgrade at a later date then that’s ideal. I find my own new purchase Scary enough just for the moment

There are a couple of turbo’s around the area in fact by own car (although bought in Sheffield) lived in Needham Market originally.
Perhaps during the course of the summer months you might like to dilute the TVR’s at a local meet, conversations about Airfix and glue have their limits

At least with the turbo mufflers you may stand a chance of getting a bloody loud exhaust that *doesn't* have brain-melting resonance. Equally it'll be nice to have a car that goes as fast as it sounds!!!
One thing though - IIRC 100 cell cats and Supercup style 'no baffles' pipes are going to reduce back pressure enough to warrant an ECU remap to ensure the fuelling isn't screwed up - if you're going to remap I'd definitely advise a rolling road remap rather than a plug-in generic map, since with extreme exhausts the flow characteristics are changed. Of course remapping a Turbo can give monster power gains, unlike messing about with old atmo 993s
I saw the Supercups on the classifieds - did you sell them in the end?
I had Revo on an Audi TT before and was a good remap, but have been told that Revo will always leave a trace code on your ECU even when in standard mode, so can be picked up by diagnostic equipment, as it leaves both the standard and performance program on the ECU at all times. Just what i've been told though??
The current generation of Revo for Porsche leaves no trace, does'nt trip the flash counter and does not show a 00000 when the car is plugged in to a Porsche System Tester.
They do offer a 5hr "try before you buy" option but this is just the standard code. Revo outlets who do not have a rolling road or are not Porsche Specialists can only instal standard code.
As for exhausts I have a T-T-P [Turbo Tuning Pietz] "loud system" in stock. This has slightly larger primary tubes than the competition and is favourably priced.
