Sad to say, but I am trying to install Windows 98 on a new Hewlett Packard desktop (for compatability reasons) but am having problems. The system will boot from the CD, go through the install process, and then when it re-boots from the HDD, it locks up. I can boot into safe mode, no errors are shown, but I do not know why the system is hanging.

Any advice gratefully received.

Install 2k or XP, install VMWare, install 98 on virtual box.

I with Einion Yrth on this one - win 98 doesn't natually support hard drives of the size in your machine (or format if its not FAT32) so is probably hanging due to getting its knickers in at twist. Other drivers are probably missing as well.
